I am literally buying a PS3 in less than 24 hours. Things like this make me want to reconsider.
this is the only occurrence of something like this happening in the 5 years the psn has been up, and its not even sony's fault. why reconsider?
this is the only time something like this happening in the 5 years the psn has been up, and its not even sony's fault. why reconsider?
PSN has gone down before, remember that incident where some models thought that it was a leap year or something. It was like Y2K all over again.
I'd like to find out who caused all this and give them a stern talking to
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/gx6o4/im_a_moderator_over_at_psxscenecom_the_real/
So basically Sony lied about it being some kind of DDoS so they could cover up a possible massive security breach good show
Shut up, people are SUFFERING. Dude, there's no psn, people are in real pain right now. Fuck the ones who have real suffering like hunger or cancer, what matters is that no psn = people fucking suffer. Don't you get it? A day without psn for a ps3 user is like a year in hell.
Yeah but they are ether poor or sick and don't deserve to live.
So basically Sony lied about it being some kind of DDoS so they could cover up a possible massive security breach good show
speculation but it does seem logical
How does "anonymous" claim no involvement. There's no real organization to it, its a bunch of random teens with botnets Ddosing companies they disagree with.
NO ONE IS DDOSING ANY WEBSITE. Sony shut down PSN because people were using a CFW that allowed them to take free games.
So basically Sony lied about it being some kind of DDoS so they could cover up a possible massive security breach good show
When did they ever call it a DDoS? The only term I've seen them use is 'external intrusion' which could mean anything.
When did they ever call it a DDoS? The only term I've seen them use is 'external intrusion' which could mean anything.
It was an assumption based on anon involvement. They usually DDoS or spam as that is a they know. This was a much more carefully created thing. To find that exploit to get onto the Dev network probably took quite a bit of tinkering.
I'll add the reddit link to the OP as well. Thanks for the updates guys.
When did they ever call it a DDoS? The only term I've seen them use is 'external intrusion' which could mean anything.
They said it was maintenance when it was actually a DDoS (lie) and then they used purposely vague language to make people assume it was still the DDoS when it wasn't (lie of omission) Stop defending your corporate lover
PSN has gone down before, remember that incident where some models thought that it was a leap year or something. It was like Y2K all over again.
Except it wasn't PSN, all the (old; fat) PS3s would not play any games. [editline]26th April 2011[/editline]
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/gx6o4/im_a_moderator_over_at_psxscenecom_the_real/
Technically, this does fit in under the "external intrusion" reason Sony provided, along with the fact that they tend to freak out and act irrationally when shit like this happens, so it does seem likely.

http://www.psu.com/news/11425?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PlayStation-Universe+%28PlayStation+Universe%29
A source with close connections to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reports that the attack to the PlayStation Network may be a bit deeper than originally reported by Sony. According to the source, who wishes to remain anonymous, the PSN sustained a LOIC attack (which created a denial-of-service attack) that damaged the server. There was also a concentrated attack on the PlayStation servers holding account information. In addition, “Admin Dev accounts were breached.” As a result, “Sony then shut down the PSN and [is] currently in the process of restoring backups to new servers with new admin dev accounts.” The SCEE source said Japanese servers may be restored tomorrow while the U.S. and E.U. servers will likely be operational the following day.
The bolded part worries me the most. If it's true, I seriously hope there isn't anyone who got their account compromised or deleted. On a lighter note, it would be mighty nice if that last bit was also true.

Dude, fuck the geotwat guy, wasn't for his pointless crusade to get a pointless OS to work on a pointless outdated console none of this shit would have happened. I think his whole plan to get admired for some trivial bullshit he managed to do just backfired. And now costumer info being compromised? I think I speak for everyone when I say geohot, fffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuck youuuu.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
:suicide:
wow are you misinformed
No I'm pretty sure its his fault
It's a hostile environment right now. That being said, the PS3 hardware is undeniably the best and is useful for far more than gaming online.
besides, ya know, a good gaming pc.
besides, ya know, a good gaming pc.
why would you come into a console thread just to say pcs are better obviously given the context of this discussion he meant the PS3 was the best hardware-wise out of consoles
why would you come into a console thread just to say pcs are better obviously given the context of this discussion he meant the PS3 was the best hardware-wise out of consoles
I post what I like where I like. That being said, feel free to attempt to refute my claims.

Well fuck, so is only the people that get an e-mail the ones who had compromised data?
Well fuck, so is only the people that get an e-mail the ones who had compromised data?
Everyone has compromised data.
Everyone has compromised data.
Read their FAQ, they say the will inform those whom had data compromised via email. [editline]26th April 2011[/editline] Or are they just sending an email out to everyone?
I just went in to make sure I didn't have an account with my card on it, and Firefox flipped a shit because it didn't get certificates to prove the site's identity. Normally I'd be suspicious but considering Sony's recent security, I figured that was their fault too. [del]and then they went down for maintenance to cover it up.[/del] I just remembered PSN's been down for a while
