Well actually you can, you see theres this wonderful cycle on earth, the water cycle, you may have heard of it.
Now you see the sun evaporates water, which becomes a vapour in the atmosphere, this forms clouds and they turn to rain and trickle down back into the sea.
But some times bad gases like CO2, and NO get into the water making the rain acidic which is a bitch for the enviroment, and that scusk, cause most of the life on earth doesn't do acid well.
