Consider this:
Krakatoa once erupted so horrendously, that the ash cloud it produced traveled around the world. Twice. It caused the global temperature to drop by 1.2 degrees celsius in 1 year. It caused the sky over much of Europe to become colored in spectrums ranging from blood-red to light orange; this phenomenom can be observed in the painting The Scream, which scientists say is an accurate depiction of the sky at the time. The ash cloud blocked out the sun in parts of the US, and some farmers suffered severe crop failure.
You think humans have the power to change Earth's climate like that? Pffft, sure. Maybe we should legislate volcanoes into not erupting, lol.
Uhh, uh, lankist; nature is sort of important. You know all those millions of poor people in 3rd world countries who have to fish and hunt every day just to get food to eat? They sort of need nature for their survival.
Ooh yes Al Gore made a bunch of money off The Inconvenient Truth dvds. HE WANTS TO SUBJUGATE THE PUBLIC SO HE CAN BEND THEM TO HIS WILL.

Did I mention private companies? No. They're profiting off the hysteria, sure, but there's still room for the choice NOT to be environmentally friendly.
What's disturbing is when you say "making people environmentally friendly." How are you going to do that? Legislation? What are the crimes going to be? Driving too far in one day? Using too much of a certain fuel or lighting your house with the wrong bulbs? How do you enforce that? Are you going to fine the dirty people, or send them to jail?
And what if you don't have legislation? What if you enforce nothing? That's what I want, personally, but is that what you want? Because as I'm told, the people who choose to be environmentally friendly aren't enough.
It boils down to the slow dissolution of personal choice through what can only be described as terror. Yet again, fear is prevailing in modern politics. If we don't stop this and make people environmentally friendly, terrible things will happen. Now that's a good marketing tool, but is that something you want in legislation? Exploitation of fears inevitably leads to horrible, piece of shit bills. Look at USAPATRIOT. It's different circumstances and it serves a different purpose, but the way in which it got passed was the same. The justification for the legislation is identical when you consider the words "Terrorism" and "Environmental Crisis" interchangable.
It doesn't even matter if it's intentional. It still isn't right to tell people that they NEED to be friendly to the (magical buzzword) Environment. This isn't about survival, we aren't facing extinction. To claim that we are is simply terrorism in politics.
it was a bad president, wasn't it?
Nixon.
Guess what it's being used for. Not saving animals. The loose language in the act allows for prefferential land development. Meaning, the government, in many cases, has to sign off on new construction and deforestation in residential and commercial areas, and they can, and do, sign off on things that aren't so much fair as they are prefferential for a boost in local economy. In short, if you own a lot 1000 yards away from where a shopping center is being built, if it's in the best interest for that shopping center to retain empty land at its perimeter, you aren't going to get a government signoff to build on that lot.

What are you going to do about it? Force me to care? That sure is compassionate.
Speaking of which, you still have yet to address your whole compassion argument from yesterday. Remember, the one where you're going on and on about how being lazy has absolutely nothing to do with poverty or success, and when presented with the otherworldly notion of someone who finds that sort of bullshit mentality offensive, you silently retreat to the corner.

You are full of shit. I got to where I am because I worked. I studied, I researched, and I still bust my ass day by day just for self improvement and understanding. Actually IIRC I responded to that post about you growing up in a trailer park by saying that you may have climbed to the top on your own, but not all poor people start in the exact same conditions as you, and for a single mother of two, or a child who was raised knowing of nothing but gang violence and despair, or a man who has serious psychological issues and has fallen through the cracks of our medicaid system, or a vietnam veteran who sometimes tries to strangle his wife in his sleep because he never really left vietnam and in the half dream half-waking state he was in he saw her as a charlie, (I have met all of these people, they are not made up) it can be pretty hard just to get by, let alone try to get by and try to build a career or go to college at the same time.

No, the post I quoted was the response to what you just repeated verbatim. When you told me I am "lucky." That's bullshit. You're attributing some sort of fucked up psychological divinity to why I'm not a (complete) failure. That instead of climbing out of a hole through my own blood, sweat and tears, I got a gentle push by some fucking bullshit advantage you made up, be that where I started or what my conditions were. That's insulting, demeaning, condescending and downright bullshit, and shows a complete LACK of compassion for where I came from and what I did to get to where I am.
I don't care where you are in life, the only thing I believe in whole heartedly is that every individual has the capability for self improvement. But when some fuck like you, living in relative wealth, extravagance and overabundance of means of entertainment such as this network right here, when you tell people from this perch high above the rest of the world that there are sad little people down at your feet who are inherently too small to make it to eye-level with you, that it is your self-proclaimed RESPONSIBILITY to help lift them to your almightly level of success, you have done both an extreme disservice and thrown an insult with such an enormous lack of compassion and empathy that I have a difficult time taking anything you say seriously.

And you aren't? I'm not going to be more compassionate. Not for you or anyone whose vagina I'm not madly in love with. And that's the point. You can't do a goddamn thing about it. It defies your world view and offends your sensibilities, but here I stand, a product of success not out of the "compassion" of pompous, condescending people like you who think it's your duty to help all the little people down below, but instead out of my own volition, work and intelligence.
It invalidates your entire assertion.
[editline]10:32PM[/editline]
I'll say it as many times as you want me to until you man up and admit it. Your condescension and shortsightedness are offensive to me and anyone who's actually had to make something of themselves. When faced with the reality of the impoverished you proclaim compassion for, they are evidently alien to you. You don't care about them, you care about making yourself feel better. Anyone whose ever taken Psych 101 can tell, this shit is all about you.
[editline]10:33PM[/editline]

What, the notion that someone who was raised in an impoverished environment finds the ramblings of an intellectual child who thinks it's his moral duty to help all those below stand to such a great stature as his to be offensive?
It's not exactly complicated. Maybe you don't understand it because you have a complete lack of empathy for the issue at hand.
Global warming is just another thing politicians say it wrong with the world and say they're fixing.

do you really look at it like that? are you really hesitant to mention yourself loving a person, you just say it's their vagina, their sex that you love? Were you just trying to be humorous or is that how it really is?
Would it really matter if I did?
It doesn't make you any less wrong.
You'd get to say your condescending shit like "I feel bad for you" with absolutely no understanding of who or why I am. In reality, in doing that the only person you're fooling is yourself.
Man Made Global Warming... the temperature of Earth is in perfect sync with the Sun's activity for fucks sake, When can we forget about Global Warming and Focus on a new disaster for a decade
If you want to be worried, be worried that every 11 years without fail since We've been recording it (I think) the Sun goes through a cycle in which Sunspots appear, but it's been 13 years, and none have been seen
You see how Cold and Hot places of the earth get in Winter/Summer, and that's just because of a relatively minor tilt in the scope of things... on an astronomical level, it's an insignificant distance of movement, but temperatures range 30-40 degrees F because of it... maybe, just maybe, the FUCKING SUN is going through a Fucking Cycle, and even a Minor change can have an effect on earth
People, animals and shit give off more Co2 than factories anyway, and I mean as in Exhaling when we breathe

This isn't goint to happen, you can't tell India and China to stop developing their industry, and a halt in industry growth would be required to even slow the rate of global warming.
