This is more than just a blimp. Can land vertically in places with no runway, or on water, and the final design will be able to lift tonnes of materials. It's basically the perfect disaster response vehicle able to drop in masses of supplies into areas that other vehicles can't get to .
Sure it's great if you don't mind waiting for 3 weeks for your rescue to arrive Problem is, I would imagine its quite slow and affected by weather
as awesome as it looks; it doesnt look revolutionary.
Looks like a light storm would tear it apart. The lighter-than-air property as well as their huge profiles makes airships unreliable (try landing that in a force 7-8). I can imagine the cost-versus-cargo-capacity is very unfavorable too. I hardly think this will become a revolution in logistics.
(try landing that in a force 7-8).
Try landing anything in that.
Pretty useful for rescue & aid work.
Try landing anything in that.
Naturally it's bordering the extreme, but at least larger airplanes can deal with strong (cross-)winds by turning their gears and approach the airstrip at an angle, as shown in this vid: This thing would be blown away or just pushed into the ground.
awesome, with this we could develop shit like this [img_thumb]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tCQH9GegMWA/S2CtJMzZisI/AAAAAAAABzE/5tFELHCT0xg/s320/sfgdsfhghg.jpg[/img_thumb]
Great idea! A capital ship that can be completely destroyed with a single volley of light missiles!

An aircraft that like, totally launches OTHER aircrafts, YEAH!"
Technically it's Alien, but I won't get into Doctor Who. :3:
Somebody called? British Spectrum are here to fuck some aliens up.
That much closer to living in the skies!! :science:
It's full of helium, not Hydrogen.
[tab]oh the humanity[/tab]
One gust of wind...
# RULE BRITANNIA! britannia rules the skies! #

So awesome!
One step closer to my dream of being a sky pirate.
England Masters of the skies :smug:
Great idea! A capital ship that can be completely destroyed with a single volley of light missiles!
Can easily be fixed by simply placing the helium bags inside the hull instead of outside.
And if the wind blows hard enough it flies backwards, or does 1 knot. That's right. You can walk faster than this thing depending on weather
Can easily be fixed by simply placing the helium bags inside the hull instead of outside.
Even better, just fit it with high resolution radar and a couple of Phallanx turrets, problem solved.
Let's put several harpoons on it and become air pirates.
Can easily be fixed by simply placing the helium bags inside the hull instead of outside.
Except if you put any sort of hull plating on an airship you'll completely lose the "lighter-than-air" property and the ship can't fly. Point defense is the best bet for protective measures, but there's a limit to how effective it can be (and you'll still never be able to stop high-velocity anti-material rounds)
Thats a weird blimp... [editline]4th January 2011[/editline] What the fuck its as small as a car.
Except if you put any sort of hull plating on an airship you'll completely lose the "lighter-than-air" property and the ship can't fly.
just slap some engines on there to make up for added weight
Oh god the sound when it takes off. It fucking squeaks.
This is a colossal waste of money. [editline]4th January 2011[/editline]
just slap some engines on there to make up for added weight
Which gives more weight.
just slap some engines on there to make up for added weight
Dude, you mean like, making it keep up by going fast? Like, with aerodynamics and such? Woah, that's new man. Don't think it'd work.
I remember reading about this in Popular Science years ago, I was wondering what happened to it.
I remember reading about this in Popular Science years ago, I was wondering what happened to it.
Stuff like this always happens! A new breakthrough but then you never see it again :smith:
