bayonetta is a female power fantasy.
the person who designed her is a girl named Mari Shimazaki who designed her to be a power fantasy for how she wishes to be
edit:
bayonetta is also one of my favorite video game characters because of how awesome she is.
I have a feeling Colbert knows what's going on but is still trying to make something entertaining for his less educated viewers.
I agree, it seems at times he was replying to Anita with questions that she didn't want to answer, like for example where he asked her to list 3 games and she just dodged it completely.
I really think that this interview was something for people like us who are more informed on games than the average person to laugh about really.
Bayonetta is one of the best female characters in games. She's confident, strong, and she doesn't give a shit what you think of her. She's one of the most positive examples of a woman in games, is one of the most powerful game characters to exist, her being a woman is never considered a weakness or problem, but oh no her clothes come of and you can see her butt when she does special attacks, so sexist.
People who think Bayonetta is sexist because she's naked sometimes need to grow up.
Of course there are exceptions, she acknowledges that in her videos, the point is that the overwhelming majority of female representation in games isn't characters like Samus. One exception doesn't make the trend completely non-existent.
yes but she also attacks and ignores and finds bullshit exceptions to strong female characters so as to bolster her argument that the games industry never does it right.
Yeah, but she also makes characters like Bayonetta look like a bad thing despite Bayonetta being an amazing example of positive sexualization.
I absolutely agree, but that's not something that's easy to see at face value. To imply that she's somehow being dishonest because of a different interpretation is a pretty big logical jump.

When does she ever say that it's never done right? She's a critic. Of course she's going to focus on negative examples when doing an informative piece on harmful media. A specific focus doesn't mean she's denying the existence of everything else.

She has no history of dishonesty or anything...

Have you even heard her talk about bayonetta...?
Of course there are exceptions, she acknowledges that in her videos, the point is that the overwhelming majority of female representation in games isn't characters like Samus. One exception doesn't make the trend completely non-existent.
The overwhelming representation of women in games is... what exactly? I can list a load of strong, confident, intelligent female characters but I can't think of many that are somehow bad examples. The worst that comes to mind is Princess Daisy from the Mario franchise because she never does anything, but even Princess Peach is one of the more powerful characters in that series.
Like all the bad representations of women in games I can think of come from 10+ years ago, and most of them come from 20-30 years ago. You say "One exception doesn't make the Trend completely non-existant" but you never stated what the trend is.
Sexualization isn't a bad thing, and if video game industry want to be considered as a serious art form it shouldn't be afraid to showcase sex-positive characters and stories.
Have you even heard her talk about bayonetta...?
I've begun to notice a running theme with people in this thread who've said they like and agree with what she says.
Why, oh why this witch has to ruin everything
Have you even heard her talk about bayonetta...?
for those who haven't heard anita talking about bayonetta yet
listen to how wrong she is (she removed this video on her main channel)

Remember to turn off the annotations too, those are (clearly) inserted by the person who reuploaded the video.

how anyone can take that dissection of the game seriously is beyond me. it is an absolutely horribly uninformed, bullshit take on the game.
I just finished watching the entire interview and it was pretty cingeworthy. It reminded me of a bunch of old people sitting around pretending to know about "new-fangled" technology of which they have no clue, all the while Anita was there to pull the wool over their eyes.

Colbert was just completely out of his depth. His ignorance was the biggest thing on display.
You realize that Colbert's character is "crotchety old conservative that doesn't know anything about the modern world and hates anything vaguely liberal", right?
You guys realize the Colbert Report is ending very soon right? Kinda hard to "ruin" something that won't be on the air in a year
Honestly though, the interview sucked. If there's one thing gamergaters are getting right is how the media is totally missing the point.
Someone needs to go on TV and point out that yes, ethics in video game journalism IS important, but gamergate is subverting its own supposed goal by acting unethically.

is that true? that's heart breaking

Subverting it's own goal by donating 70k to a group helping women get into game development and 10k to anti bullying. Can you explain the acting unethically portion of your post?
Are you going to disappear from the discussion again now?
is that true? that's heart breaking
yep he's taking over for Letterman

don't forget another 10k to unicef
Which, if we're talking about ethics, plenty of people opposed to GG tried to get Unicef to refuse.
Honestly, I don't give a hoot or a holler about anything to do with this woman but my god she just looks like a bitch.
On topic though, I wonder how many folks are gonna blow this out of proportion.
Pertaining to this whole "Women are objectified and only used as sex objects in games", there are examples where this is clearly not the case, take ultra badass space bounty hunter Samus Aran for example.

Though, be forewarned, the specific image that you chose is from Other M.
Speaking of which, has Anita ever done an Other M video? If she hasn't, I really have to question how one manages to miss such low hanging fruit.

Apparently Anita supports #CancelColbert, even though tho she appeared on his show earlier.
You realize that Colbert's character is "crotchety old conservative that doesn't know anything about the modern world and hates anything vaguely liberal", right?
When hyperbole goes so far beyond reality it becomes useless and unfunny. Colbert didn't even hint at the real discussion going on other than some offhand comments that were used more as an ironic jab than anything else.
The entire bit was a putting of Anita on a pedestal as the heroine against the basement dwelling, misogynistic, video game nerds.
Man half the time this gamergate nonsense makes a bit of sense but the other half sounds like a bunch of dudes acting like whiny babies.

The whole thing in that article that is linked in that wasn't about agreeing with #cancelcolbert, it was about the harsh backlash Park got from it.
Like, you should read it atleast.
Also, this is I think this is the only thing that she ever said about #cancelcolbert.

you have a strange definition of whiny babies
gamergate has plenty of women in it.
