If it's real then it's probably a deformed version of a regular animal (people have mentioned sloths I see)
I wish they didn't kill it, it would be really interesting to find out what it was. However the lack of corpse does make it seem really suspicious. I am going to assume it's fake till proven otherwise.
Someone threw their deformed baby into a cave then it grew up.
