Metal Gear Rising Revengeance might not have Revengeance in title anymore
Oh looky a podcast from Kojima Productions talking about this (Japanese) : http://www.kjp.konami.jp/gs/hideoblog/2011/12/000467.html

So the game was basically canceled, then stuff happened and Platinum games offered to finish it.
Also looking at a lot of comments (not just on this forum) seems like people really dislike change, complain all you want and don't buy it, if it turns out as terrible as you are saying they won't likely give a major game style change a try again any time soon.
Probably better examples out there, but look at the Mario series, with I believe the most popular spinoff being the kart series(?) or even the RPG series?
What if they never tried something different from the main series of platforming? A lot of money lost and potential new customers brought in by those games to the rest of the series.
They're people that do like main series, but possibly hate the kart one. Like here, some fans of MGS instantly saying how shit this game will be because it's basically not the same genre. (It's not even finished.)
Does this make them bad games? No, they just aren't made for you.
Though anyway to me they seeming are taking the risk with their half finished game instead of just wasting the work already done and dumping it.
The new name is stupid. Why not just call it Metal Gear Rising?
The reason they added the "Rising" subtitle was to make sure players distance it from both the Metal Gear series (the MSX ones) and the Solid series (Playstation).

Change never works with fans. It has never worked.
Everyone is complaining about how games are all the same run and gun and they want something new and innovative. When the developers decide to make something new and innovative, the fans turn the boat 180 degrees and start complaining about how this isn't anything like the previous games.
You can't please everyone in this industry. You either like it or you don't, there are no other options.

My only problem with this is that they scrapped what was gonna be a good piece of story telling with some really cool gameplay, and gave it what is probably a cliche story with a very different, very boring and already seen a few times style of gameplay.
Why did they cancel it is beyond me. It seemed like it would do perfectly fine, especially with a different approach, finally as the ninja of the game.
Observe, the gameplay footage!

Kinda sucks that there are no ragdolls, IMO, but I hope it's beta or something.

I think its a joke.

So its going to play just like Bayonetta but with a metal gear story. I actually think this is a good thing since its not mgs 5.

You have to make appropriate changes like adding new mechanics that differentiate from the first one but doesn't completely change the entire point of the series. Ironically, MGS is a good example of this. If MGS4/MGSPW still played like MGS1, then it wouldn't be as enjoyable and it would be stagnant like Guitar Hero.

Platforming wasn't only the important part, it was the power ups. Power ups were an element that stayed in nearly every Mario game. If they removed it, you'll find a lot of people complaining about it. Rising however, doesn't seem to contain any element from the previous games at all and has turned into a DMC-esque hack n' slash. Though I'm disappointed in it, I'll still try it.
Watching the trailer, the game looks good as it is, but I don't understand why those regular soldiers take so many hits to die. The sword clearly passes right through them, and as they are obviously human that should be an instant kill. It seems a bit unreal to have this super soldier who can throw huge machine tank things like they are tennis balls, but have to hit a human soldier with his sword several times to kill them. It's as if the game is trying to be like Devil May Cry, but that worked because the enemies that Dante would hack and slash to pieces tended to be demons who you could understand surviving a sword hit. If those soldiers got cut apart easily, I'd be happy with the trailer for what it is.
Also, why do they even bother with guns if everyone just dodges the bullets and stabs each other?
It's because the game would be too easy if every squishy soldier died in one swipe.
