Maybe someone in the future took one of those deadly AR-15 killing machines back in time? :v:
Guns of the South, an amazing book.
Racist South Africans with a time machine take pallets of AKs and ammunition back to help the South win the war.
Wait, how do they define "murder" if that was the period that the Civil War occurred? Technically a Confederate soldier shooting a Union soldier is one American citizen shooting another American citizen seeing as the Confederate States never technically leaved legitimately?

Also considering the lawlessness out on the Western Frontier I'd imagine there was a fairly large amount of contribution to the murder rate that isn't around anymore.

the CSA was a distinct sovereign entity

the frontier mentality has actually survived through the generations like some kind of tumorous cultural appendix and is responsible for the cult of the 2nd amendment (and thus the increased violence) we have today. this is partially why the original 13 colonies have much lower crime rates than the south and west
Both sides provide valid information and statistics. Both sides make valid arguments. And as far as the whole "gun control"/"gun restriction" argument, arguing semantics is pointless. By calling it "gun restriction" you're twisting words just as much as the other side.
How is it twisting words? They literally want to restrict guns :v:

Yeah no. Unless you provide evidence, your shit brit mentality on the 2nd amendment holds no bearing. Guns don't cause crime or violence. Circumstances and the free market cause crime.
You'd probably find that if you banned handguns the crime rate would drop massively.
you mean like Chicago did?
you mean like Chicago did?
And the fun fact is, you can't just up and ban things. That's not how the world works. Just because you say it's gone, doesn't mean it will disappear.
1846-1887? I'm honestly surprised I haven't read anywhere about how lever action rifles would be the death of their country. That's a pretty big step up from just normal single shot weapons.
Lever action rifles weren't even really produced till the mid 1870s.

I mean, there's the Henry, but only like 10k of those were made. Not a lot of guns for a huge nation.

Discourse means much more than you think, the way you talk about stuff is very important to the way it's perceived.
And (bolded part) what are you even trying to accomplish? Start a shitstorm? There's no reason to talk shit about people when they're trying to have a level-headed discussion. Here's a source on the argument, and while he's wrong about the crime rate being substantially lower in the 13 colonies, the crime rate in the US declined much slower than the crime rate in Europe.
Source now actually included: http://blogs.berkeley.edu/2010/06/16/a-crime-puzzle-violent-crime-declines-in-america/
This shouldnt be news.. Everyone should look that the FBI UCS once in awhile
because some youtube fad told you so?
Entirely true, but the whole anti-gun basis (the AWB crowd especially) has boiled down to a point where it's simply not about facts anymore, it's about personal feelings and "what if" scenarios intended to target scary-looking guns. That's it. There's no facts being circulated in the argument anymore.
People are ignorant of guns, and ignorance breeds fear; especially fear of guns that look imposing. It's basically just a witch hunt at this point.

Gee thanks for lumping everyone together with the loons
because some youtube fad told you so?
What fad?
I've been watching these stats for awhile. I like watching trends.
good
because some youtube fad told you so?
No because the FBI is an aggregate for good information?
The assault weapons back then were single shot, break barrel cartridge rifles.
Think about that. That's only like eight shots a minute.
Well actually they had some breach rifles back then that were able to 20 shots a minute around that time.
