It seems like an unnecessary cost because ABC just regurgitates international news and content (specifically ABC 24) , I'd say it's better to have the content accessible online for people who live in other countries.
And is it me or does facepunch only ever read titles involving ABC and start fearmongering about ABC disappearing, that's not going to happen obviously. And the article even fucking explains how minor this is.

Way to diminish any work the journos do at the ABC tasm.
Regardless, the Australia Network is a nifty soft-diplomacy tool. We already fund a bunch of Islamist schools in Indonesia for the express purpose of combating extremist versions of the ideology. The Australian Network is pretty much just an extension of this into entertainment which promotes our culture. The savings from scrapping it are pretty miniscule, and it makes me wonder if it will be reintroduced for groups to bid for the tender.
