Oh wow, people would a flame company for continuing an IP created by a ridiculously influential employee that they forcibly removed.
Stop the fucking presses.

Dont forget making the workplace incredibly hostile by even Japanese standards, [if the employee is to be believed for this next set of stuff] forcing KojiPro to optimize and change the Fox engine for more things than it was originally intended for, forcing it onto previous gen hardware resulting in lost content and then rushing the game out when it was pretty much half finished. THEN forcefully removing him.
IMO, people give waaay too much shit about Quiet just because she's seen first as awkward eye candy, and use that card whenever they want to complain about something.
Let's face it, though, despite the fact I've played hundreds of hours of the game and love Quiet as a character, that's really what she is.
But then again Nanomachines do lie in the center of MGS4, and they're as bonkers as zombies are, arguably even more. Not to mention they're essentially a lazy plot hole filler and cheap suspension of disbelief device, although that's unrelated to the topic at hand.
Why?
I don't get why people see nanomachines as a cheap plot hole filler.
Does the game try to give off a realistic feel with its story to the point that nanomachines would be considered unrealistic as fuck?
I see it as the same as saying whatever unrealistic thing in whatever game as being a plot hole filler aswell then.
What I mean is... Why aren't nanomachines a reasonable excuse, but whatever else anywhere else is?
Theres a clear difference between a game that sells itself on being in a universe where tech is so advanced that there are mechs irl and cyborgs and pretty developed nanotech, and a game that has zombies because....????
I mean, it doesnt makes sense. Its like saying "what if suddenly zombies" and having it not fit. Rising makes sense, seeing how cyborg tech was getting really far ahead. Why do we have zombies now, other than the fact that its the hot fad of the moment?
To me, this is a cash grab in plain sight.

Probably, yes... Its a bit too much on the nose. Kojima could have played it a good bit more toned down.
But those are the kind of things the game did wrong, which are a good few.
Because despite being a spin-off, it still has the name, and even the spin-offs follow the themes and ideas present in the main series in relation to weapons of war and politics. And, hypothetically of course, a spin-off could damage the mainline series if the scale of it goes out of control. Like, for example, Sonny Big Jim John Viper Snaku Jr. goes on a universe trotting adventure saving galaxies from super-gears, well that'd just make Snake and Big Boss look like small fries in comparison.
This is essentially like making a standalone Metal Gear title out of the Monster Hunter missions in PW. Its fun as a side thing in the game, but i'd just be bizarre and way way out of place as its own game.
it's becoming pretty clear in the trailers that they're not trying to do any of that, though. it's just a regular spin-off. yeah, if they did try something like that, it could be a problem, but in this case it seems fine to me.

Right, BUT, going to another universe is still a bit much.
wasnt ac!d 2 in a completely different universe with an awful anime artstyle though?
It was sort of like an elseworlds yeah but it was still the same kinda bullshit, just a card game.
I mean, LITERALLY going from one universe to another through wormholes.
i think it's just a matter of taste. yeah zombies is overdone, yeah konami recycled a bunch of shit from mgsv, but the idea of the wormhole fulton going crazy and red crystal zombies doesn't even phase me after playing mgsv where parasites and zombie soldiers exist.
i mean to me it makes sense somewhat. this is konami we're talking about. they made silent hill, they're not completely retarded when it comes to making a story.
they made silent hill, they're not completely retarded when it comes to making a story.
Considering what Konami did to Silent Hill and Team Silent, thats a very, very poor example :v:
Pretty sure Peace Walker had a zombie dinosaur as a boss in one of the Monster Hunter missions.
And before anyone comes along and tells me it's a non-canon Side Op, that's almost exactly what this is, only standalone.

Hey, dont start this shit here, you had a chance to read my arguments in the other thread.

What, I can't give my opinion in a thread anymore? Don't carry arguments between threads. This isn't about you at all.

Dont.
every person who has said that konami is the worst company of 2016 and buys this game regardless for consumer reasons is a dickhead
Dont.
I'm not picking a fight, just giving my opinion on the game and Kojima's statement. Trust me, that's all it is. I didn't even notice your post here.
My issue with Survive zombies is not that they've added them but because from the only gameplay demonstration they were the only enemy type. And for a franchise that is known for a sandbox like stealth mechanics and the best boss battles bland zombies is just a tip for completely missing the point of mgs.
MGS is over. Konami has a real history of ruining franchises so I don't understand why would anyone look forward to it.
Yeah, I'd really prefer more enemy types. I think ZEKE was hinted at in the first trailer, but it would be nice to see something like rogue XOF squads as random encounters or something.

On the bright side, some MGS3-style survival elements are back, like healable limb damage.

oh okay i guess you can just magically tell what i would be doing in some hypothetical situat- wait no. no you cant

if anything, judging by the video posted in the general thread, it's more like a purgatory of a dying mind

No really, the announce trailer actually had the old 1974 MSF being sucked into a wormhole.
No really, the announce trailer actually had the old 1974 MSF being sucked into a wormhole.
It also had Big Boss and Kaz flying off looking like they came straight out of Source Filmmaker and somehow not noticing the fuckhuge wormhole that immediately opened up (despite the fact that they had actually stayed to watch the rig collapse and observed further damages, meaning there's no way they would've missed the wormhole if this was canon).
The wormhole is more like a batshit insane metaphor for entering another world rather than literal, probably. Like the sight of one losing their sanity to madness before they take the plunge. It's probably their 'excuse' for all the DD gear too, besides asset reusage.

don't worry i don't plan on buying this

you're getting upset over a spinoff that's not even being sold at retail price.
imagine what it'd be like if konami decided to make a main entry mgs game this early.

30 dollars is still too much for this tbh.

Missed out on using a better headline op
Eh, for me it's less about whether zombies fit with the metal gear solid universe and more the fact that they booted Kojima and then had literally the first metal gear game without him be an uninspired co-op zombie shooter . I love co-op games, and zombies aren't the huge turn off for me that they are for other people- but there's no denying that co-op zombie shooter games are becoming almost as tired as grey-brown modern shooters were in the last generation. You can't take a beloved franchise and, not only turn it into something it's not, but turn it into something that's so pedestrian and overdone that most people are already sick of it, and then expect the fans to be happy about it.

Honestly with how jaded I've become with all the corruption in game journalism I wouldn't be surprised if Konami is paying people for good articles about metal gear survive
