Anyone else getting intermittent sound cutout.

I hope they find it, it's been a very long time, and now they've narrowed the search.
*obligatory space/sci-fi video game reference*
so where is it?? i've been looking for that thing goddamn everywhere in my house

" Is the only thing I understood from that website. Seems like they narrwoed down the search drastically.

The seminar starts in just less than an hour. CERN's stream is here: http://webcast.web.cern.ch/webcast/
Here's a pretty decent explanation if you know jack shit about science:
CERN is an evil organization. They will begin World War III with their secret time machine.
Don't worry, I have the Reading Steiner.
Since this guy failed in his mission, I'm expecting free Kit-Kats
Here's a pretty decent explanation if you know jack shit about science:
No that is in no way an explanation of what it is. It kind of explains why we're trying to find it (though not fully) but it does not explain what it is, what it does, why we think it exists and how we intended on finding it.

Not to sound like a damper on the new discovery, but this is kinda a thought provoking article: http://news.discovery.com/space/higgs-boson-becomes-annoying-120707.html Course we probably won't have "Higgs Field Modifiers" for a good time, but still hopefully we are responsible about it when it does come out
Science news coverage in Britain is rubbish. Kate Middleton clapping at Wimbledon was front page news where as this was reported on pages further in.
Checkmate atheists!
The higgs field is only related to inertial mass, correct? Does this mean that gravitons are related to gravitational mass, and that these things are seperate? [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] Best explanation I've found so far if you don't want to read 2000 pages of books to understand.
God DAMN I hate how that article is called. It's not the 'God Particle'.
To refresh your memory, the Higgs boson is the only fundamental subatomic particle predicted by theory but not yet detected.
NO. This would imply we have a theory of everything, we don't.
It could be the biggest announcement/discovery in the history of physics.
I'll believe that when I see a proper quantum gravity theory.
The rumor suggests that scientists will announce a 4-sigma level discovery.
5-sigma (That's 5 standard deviations, it's what the sigma means). It would be nice also if they explained what the hell it means 'cause I'm certain most people don't know that.
"holy grail of particle physics,"
ffs, can't the media spend more time telling people what the hell the Higgs boson is and what it implies instead of making all this misattributed biblical terms for it?

Okay now I'm even more confused how do electronvolts imply mass?
Because E=mc² tells us that mass and energy are interchangable. They converted the mass into the energy by multiplying by c², and then converted from joules into electronvolts. Why they did this though, I have no clue about.

Also some particles couldn't be measured due to how long they last or their momentum/velocity(e.g. neutrinos). Least that's how I understood it, there may be more to that
So has anything come out of this?
