I've been stabbed by a bully, in the classroom. Pretty much all the bullying in my school stopped after that. [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] Teachers wont do shit about it until it boils over and an incident happens.
At least he's decided to sue the school instead of doing what the last guy did and grab a shotgun It's pretty annoying that the only way to get attention to this shit is either with a lawyer or a gun
the only reason they care about the gun is because the parents of the dead kids would sue bitter old fucks, the lot of them
Would be okay if fighting back solved anything, but with me, if i gave somebody a bloody nose in a fight they just came back with more and more friends untill i was unable to run away anymore without being circled and stamped on, let alone fight them, even when i had my own friends backing me up there was no way to deal with them all. my friend andy got suspended for pretty much saving my life, i was in the medical room after the incident i mentioned before and he came to see if i was alright- a group of the guys from before ran into the nurses office, shoved the fucking nurse onto the floor and started punching and kicking me in the corner when i already had cracked ribs (i found out later), a broken nose and a few broken fingers. andy is a sort-of gentle giant, and he absoulutely lost it and beat the tar out of two of them, and literally threw the rest out- school made sure he wasnt around the next day to save my ass when the ones who werent suspended first time came round to do it again. they kept giving us "stay away from them!" and "stop looking for trouble!!!!" , but all the lunch-time supervisors agreed it was pretty fucking obvious they were grouping up and walking around looking for our group. the school was aware but did fucking nothing. they even pelted 4 girls who hung out with us with rocks, and one of them said all they did was bring the guy to the medical room to show him the damage it did, and he laughed in her face, told her "cry more emo kid" and sauntered off.
Man, that's getting to some 1980's highschool-movie bullying.
back when i was in school, bullying was different... If you told the teacher, they didn't get in trouble... YOU DID me and three other people were locked inside a toilet on the third floor of our school (bathrooms were locked during lesson times so if you needed to go you had to ask for the key from the teacher, which is infinitely more embarrassing as a unwritten rule we would wait until multiple people needed to go before risking the embarrassment to go up and ask) anyway, my bully came with us and when we were all inside he locked us inside with the keys, then jammed bundles of damp toilet tissue inside the door hinges. so we became double locked in, because even if the door wasn't locked, we would never be able to force the door open we sat trapped inside the toilets for 5 hours until the end of the day when a caretaker found us, which took another hour to get us out, the bully told the teachers that us three went out of school and bunked off. when we told the teachers the truth, we locked up three, were the ones punished, because "we didn't understand the type of upbringing the bully had." and weren't being respectful of the bullies needs after a week's worth of detention, we HAD to attend a counseling meeting where we had to apologise to the bully for not understanding his 'plight' of living in a poor household. Public schools in east London as a child where, weird...
Fuck that shit, I'd have gone postal.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Zero Tolerance seems to do nothing except punish the victims in these cases.
All of these stories in this thread are fucking sad, the people getting bullied and TRYING to stop the bullying get in trouble and you see the bullies get away freely.

Seriously though, its amazing how much schools neglect cases like these until they blow up into a huge situation.....an AVOIDABLE situation I might add.
I was bullied to the point of knocking the bully out. Luckily I didn't get in trouble for it as the school knew that I was being bullied. This whole thing reminds me of a friend of mine, who did the same thing and ended up taking legal action against the school, as he was bullied for years, ended up beating the shit out of the bully and got the bully expelled from the school. Ultimately a lot of this boils down to schools wanting to avoid getting sued for making the wrong decision. Take one wrong step and depending on how bad things get you could have parents suing you or even appearing in the national news about how badly you fucked up. Zero tolerance policies are a way out of that as are downplaying incidents and getting cops to be stationed on school sites.
I got beat up once by a guy two grades up and a head taller than me in high school, and I got a week's suspension because he was on the track team and was basically their star runner Being on any sort of sports team basically makes you immune to penalties so you can bully whoever you want and get away with it and that's fucking dumb Fuck bullies, seriously
It has its perks, trust me.
zero tolerance exists because its unfair to expect school staff to play judge jury and executioner. its not their job to sort out disputes between students because that basically makes them liable for whatever happens, zero tolerance protects the staff (some argue at the cost of the students)
And this is why I stopped fucking around with school administration (who are worthless pieces of shit) and just called the police from that point on. School doesn't want to deal with bullies? Cool, I'll put it on their record instead. Theatening to sue the school and school board also works wonders. Don't ever let the school suspend you due to zero tolerance bullshit without a fight. You have a legal right to defend yourself from violence and the school is not allowed to take that away from you.

That's like saying when someone is raped it's a dispute between the students and not the schools job to sort out of the problem because it would make them liable. If I'm sending my kid to school while I'm at work, I expect the school to keep them safe. When this type of incident happens and I come back to find my kid severly injured the school fucked up. Anyway, how badly disabled is the kid? Like, legs disabled or entire body disabled?
I know first hand how bad things can get when people dont treat bullying like a serious issue. ive mentioned this in another thread a while back but, I got bullied really badly in highschool, nobody ever did anything about it. always found it strange how if you get a gang of your dickhead mates and beat a guy untill he has cracked ribs and broken fingers in the street- they put you in a cell but- 'you do the same thing on school grounds its "harmless pushing and shoving" and "kids being kids". one constant throughout my highschool life was that the teachers would always "deal with" bullying in the most disgusting and ineffective way possible. one teacher, ms austin, took it to the extent she may as well have fucking joined in, i still remember her saying things like "well the way you dress, you are practically asking for it!" while the twats where still in earshot, and doing nothing as they jeered abuse at me from behind her . i actully left half way through sixth form becuase it got so bad. one of the worst times was when i got stabbed with a craft knife in art class, TWICE by the same kid and they still refused to take any serious action against the people who were repeatedly targeting me- (in this case they just got a police officer to show the kid a video on how knife crime effects families) and he and his friends still chanted abuse about it across the classroom for weeks. i literally couldnt work in school for fear of being assulted, and the effect it had on my grades still causes me trouble in life to date.
I am absolutely in a state of shock at that. I'm not a strong person but I'm pretty tall, and I feel like I need to kill something after reading that. I can't even in any way imagine that scenario.
Not to be a dick or anything, but I find it hard to believe that a bunch of guys just smashed their way into a nurses office and attacked the nurse before assaulting an injured guy by breaking his bones, much less that they didn't get into any trouble.
Yeah, now that you pointed that out, that seems INCREDIBLY fishy.
I'm sorry, fulgrim, but I have a hard time believing everything you say. Why did you not tell your parents? Or the fucking police? As soon as a kid stabbed you with a fucking knife, that's when you go to the fucking police. "You want some evidence, officer? Here, have a fucking stab wound." Not to mention, it sounds like there were other people that are aware of this issue from what you've said (that weren't the supposed instigators), so you'd have plenty of eyewitness testimony in your favor. Honestly, I think that this would have been a pretty cut-and-dry deal if you had gone to the police about it.
snip dont mind me I was just sharing some rage stories. Vigilante justice is the only way it seems. The shitheads here still haven't grown up even though they're just about graduated.
Zero-tolerance, or how to not use your eyes. Example: Bob gets beat up to hell and back by Joe. Bob has bruises,a bloody nose, and a broken leg. Joe has a knife on him. Bob gets recommended for expulsion because of zero tolerance. Joe gets away free because he's on the football team.
My school had a zero tolerance policy, so basically everyone got in trouble, even the trouble got in trouble.
When I was in high school, you would be automatically suspended for four days if you were involved in any sort of violence. Which literally meant that if someone kicked your ass, you were suspended too - regardless of whether or not you defended (or attempted to) yourself.
No, you're not. Because that is physical confrontation and not the same. That is escalating it and taking it to a new level. You should be able to defend yourself, but you should not be allowed to start a fight.
Emotional abuse can be just as (if not more) severe and scarring than physical abuse. In my experience, many of the people you see who find it difficult to interact with others or who feel awkward socially would have dealt with bullying in their childhood. If a bully doesn't understand the long-term psychological effects of their actions, they need to be told. And when that person has been a dickhead to you for weeks or months and made every recess a living hell, I think that you're well within your rights to give him one to the nose

my school had a policy, if you were bullied and fought back, you got suspended or expelled, worked brilliantly, made good kids into depressed drug users, or made brave kids into bad guys [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] also sounds like this incident happend after school
Not to be a dick or anything, but I find it hard to believe that a bunch of guys just smashed their way into a nurses office and attacked the nurse before assaulting an injured guy by breaking his bones, much less that they didn't get into any trouble.
That's what I was thinking, because he also says the nurse was assaulted and they still did nothing. If the nurse is getting assaulted, things will get done.
i mean my school was empty 10 minutes after school, the article doesn't state what he was doing when the incident occured, it shouldnt be the school's fault that the incident happened after school, but the students that caused this to happen should really be the ones being prosecuted
I got my ankle broken in a fight due to bullying in middle school, hopped back to class and told the teacher I needed to go to the nurse to get it checked. She wouldn't let me go so I hopped around with a broken ankle for the rest of the school day. I ended up suing the school and the kid who did it and never got anything from it because there is no record it was broken at school because I couldn't go to the nurse. Knowing what I know now I would have told that teacher to piss off and left the class anyways.
Should really sue the bully, no the school district.
I would sue both. The bully for the emotional damage caused, the school district/division for being an accessory (in the case of the "blame the victim" card) and for failing to stop it within a reasonable time.
I got my ankle broken in a fight due to bullying in middle school, hopped back to class and told the teacher I needed to go to the nurse to get it checked. Zero tolerance bullshit is the reason I spent more time in elementary school suspended than actually at school. People always picked on me for a variety of reasons (red hair, freckles, glasses, getting good grades, etc.) and pretty much no matter what I would get suspended. Get punched in the face randomly and ignore it? I'd get suspended for being involved in a fight. Beat the shit out of someone who picked a fight with me literally every day we were both at school for months? I got suspended. Half the time the person starting shit didn't even get in trouble and the rest of the time they considered being suspended a reward because they hated school. Schools need to be forced into handling situations like this in a more proper manner and actually doing something about bullying rather than ignoring it or punishing the person being bullied. It's fucking bullshit.
Better off teaching your kids to fight back since the whole anti-bullying thing is a gigantic joke.
