Why can't we have guys like Bernie here in the UK? for a more inherently left wing country we sure have terrible left wing politicians.
It's really a shame the Lib Dems fell apart during the coalition. Smart move on the Tories to take the only real left wing contender they have and keep them as the fall guy with false promises of power. Hopefully this term of Tory nightmares will remind people that Clegg, for all his failings, did actually try and reign shit in during the coalition. [editline]19th July 2015[/editline]
the media over here does that for our politicians
True, the whole Milliband thing is a good example really. After looking weird eating one sandwich the media fixated on him as "that weird guy who fucked his brother over". But at least the politicians themselves can't run this stuff, and if they are found funding it I expect that can be quite unpleasant.

It really sucks, we have no actual liberal and left wing party that any of the informed or young generation will vote for.
The Republicans have been getting weaker? From the mid-term election last year, the Republicans have their largest majority in the House of Representatives since 1928. Parties can die and be replaced.
the progressive party only existed because teddy roosevelt was the one running on the ticket ironically, that split the republican vote and was basically the only reason woodrow wilson was elected into office
six words: low voter turnout rural backwater states
So what? The Republicans aren't getting weaker, pull your head out of your ass. If Democrats can't turn up to vote, too fucking bad.
I dunno, Bernie is the first candidate I've seen that's actually made me get off my ass and need to vote. And I know many like me, who wouldn't even bother to vote in this election if it wasn't for him.
arizona is a red state but phoenix is firmly blue
I'm unfortunately skeptical for Bernie only because of Clinton's name-recognition she has going for her. I'm really hoping her poor reputation mixed with Sanders' (in my opinion) fantastic ideals will put him in the lead for the primaries.
It's gonna take more than that, it takes individual people that would normally not volunteer to help with the campaign and get the word out.
Which I think Sanders has the most chance at getting. Clinton and Bush aren't going to get those who usually don't do anything because they are quite literally more of the same candidates that have been running/in power for the last couple decades. I don't think he has enough support yet, but I can damn well hope he gets it.
I'm unfortunately skeptical for Bernie only because of Clinton's name-recognition she has going for her.
She's also got billionaire backing, which Bernie won't and never will have because they don't like him and he doesn't' want them.
She's also got billionaire backing, which Bernie won't and never will have because they don't like him and he doesn't' want them.
but she also has an absolute fuckload of people who hate her
but she also has an absolute fuckload of people who hate her
Bernie has just as many if not many more.
Bernie has just as many if not many more.
bernie hasn't outright said he wants to ban guns entirely yet so he's still got a chance
I like bernie, but I also think he has no chance of going up against Hillary
bernie hasn't outright said he wants to ban guns entirely yet so he's still got a chance
He supports banning semi-automatic weapons[del] and the 'right' to sue gun companies if their products are used in a crime.[/del] He's also identified as a Socialist. That's a very fast way to make enemies in this country.

That's a very fast way to make enemies in this country.

Sanders has faced criticism from the left for voting in 2005 to shield gun manufacturers from lawsuits by gun violence victims -- which frustrated the families of the victims of the 2012 Aurora, Colorado theater shooter. "If somebody has a gun and it falls into the hands of a murderer and the murderer kills somebody with a gun, do you hold the gun manufacturer responsible? Not any more than you would hold a hammer company responsible if somebody beats somebody over the head with a hammer. That is not what a lawsuit should be about," Sanders said Sunday.
And does he actually want to ban semi-automatic weapons (as in pistols as well)?
And does he actually want to ban semi-automatic weapons (as in pistols as well)?
My bad I misread the first part. But he still wants to ban semi-automatic weapons (that would include all semi-automatics). Many people don't agree with that, including myself.
It's great to see him rising in the polls. :hypeisreal: http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/2016-national-democratic-primary http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/2016_democratic_presidential_nomination-3824.html
six words: low voter turnout rural backwater states
So? It doesn't mean the GOP are dying. It means the same thing could happen again in 2018, 2022 and so on. However the GOP are in a strong position for the 2016 election, especially with their majority in the Senate. If for some reason Sanders is nominated as the candidate for the Democrats, they might as well just give away the Presidency to a Republican on a silver platter. He's too far to the left for most Americans; it would provide a moderate Republican candidate with great odds.
Bernie has just as many if not many more.
Depends most people hate him because of the horrible reputation socialism has here

He'd probably say something radical and populist, to which the republican would snicker" Of course you think that, you're a socialist" expecting that to get him mad because socialism is a dirty word here, but he'll just be like "Yes I am, buddy boy, what else is new"

She hasn't a chance, even with all her money and name. She's just too unlikable and phony.
Bernie has just as many if not many more.
I disagree. The two message boards I visit most are Facepunch (fairly liberal) and a small gaming related forum that happens to be full of neocons for some reason. I've seen nothing but mountains of hate for Hillary on both boards, and I've seen nothing but love for Bernie on Facepunch and hardly any hate for him on the board full of neocons. Then again, I didn't see much hate for Obama until he won the primary, so who knows.
And does he actually want to ban semi-automatic weapons (as in pistols as well)?
Can someone link me this? I can't find where he said anything about semi auto weapons. I'm not a gun owner, but he comes off to me as pretty sensible and understanding about guns.

His official stance on gun control is that gun laws need to be localized on the state and city level because gun ownership means different things to different people depending on where they live in the US.
The NRA still ranks him as an F on gun control. Their ratings are a bit of a joke, being a Democrat virtually guarantees an F regardless of your actual stance.

Yeah a lot of you have your heads in your asses. Bernie has a huge amount of support from fed-up conservatives and libertarians. He has been shooting up in the polls lately, and is beginning to campaign down south. Something Democrats barely do anymore. He has raised 15 million mostly from donations less than 200 dollars. He's pretty moderate on gun-control, and really isn't far left at all. Sure, he may have a hard time getting the nomination, he will, but the nomination isn't completely out of grabs like we all thought 2 months ago.
