Legendary Films considers making a Godzilla movie.

Why make something original and take a chance when re-making something will be a guaranteed blockbuster?
They shouldn't remake it, the producers might get sued.
Godzilla's lawyers are worst than Scientology's lawyers.
We should all have a party.
Can I come as well?
Makes me wonder, will they just keep remaking stuff over and over again?
I'll guess they'll recycle anything to make a quick buck
Hollywood... :bang:
Godzilla remake you say? I accept!
Also, Mothra or King Ghidora needs a major cameo or role IMO
Please fuck no, if its made by Legendary Films, every time God Zilla fucks something up, the screen will become gritty grays and browns, and it will go into slow-mo every 10 seconds.

if they're smart, they would buy the rights to a movie. in fact, I doubt it's legal to make a movie based off a franchise if you don't have the rights.
it's too bad the 4 founding fathers of Godzilla are all dead. it would've been awesome if Legendary was able to consult them on how to make the movie good.
besides, Godzilla needs a fresh start since the latest series were almost all bombs.
in fact, here's a good look at what a Godzilla movie would be like if he was done with a better budget (this is a clip from the beginning of a Japanese comedy movie made by the guys who made Godzilla.):

Am I the only one who does not feel bad about this?
They might just make a good movie.
Also I loved Godzilla (2000) as a kid.

How about you don't have a Godzilla movie and make something original? Oh wait you fucking can't because Hollywood is run by idiots who copy stuff because it was good.

hey, I said in OP I was excited about this.
again, Godzilla needs a fresh start. all of his latest movies were bombs that were straight-to-DVD releases. that's how it's been for the last few decades, excluding Godzilla 2000. a big Theatrical Release is just what he needs.
That's a lot of fish.
How about they make something original? I like that idea.
Hollywood ran out of original ideas ages ago. Why do you think there have been so many adaptations of books/shows/games lately?
Also the ignorance in this thread amazes me.
Fuck's sakes, stop saying Godzilla 2000 when you refer to GINO/Godzilla 1998 (GINO = Godzilla In Name Only).
Godzilla 1998:

Godzilla 2000:

Big difference. Anyway, the idea of someone OTHER then Toho making a Godzilla movie is just a recipe for disaster. I enjoyed Godzilla 1998, if it weren't for it being titled "Godzilla", as the hermaphroditic iguana was a horrible representation of Godzilla. Most likely, these people will have the same mistake as the first: Messing with a winning formula. Just leave his god damn appearance alone.

I know, it's annoying me, too, how they refer to GINO incorrectly.
but still, I think Legendary might get this one right. and again, the original 1994 script for the American Godzilla movie was actually good. and the design for Godzilla in that unused script was awesome (then again, it was created by Stan Winston Studios, which is made of win.)
I found that online graphic novel version of the unused script. take a look at what could've been (it's not done, but it has been updated every now and then.)

I love how the CGI in Godzilla 98 looks like stop motion.
I really liked the american Godzilla movie as a kid. That shit was cool.

Yeah, I was about to remark upon that. People were saying they liked "Godzilla 2000", but Godzilla 2000 was just another terrible japanese Godzilla movie.
Although I'd have to disagree with you about messing with the original Godzilla's look. I mean. Okay. Come on. If they wanted to make a serious movie they HAD to redo Godzilla's design to make sense and be more realistic. The old Godzilla is widely known for looking like a giant rubber suit (because, you know, it is.) The old movies are only good because they're cheesy as hell, but I very much welcomed a more realistic rendition of the concept. I mean, it's not like they were straying far from anything at all other than the comical appeal of the originals.
Giant lizard - check
City being attacked by the latter - check
From there they can really do anything with it they want, and they did. Which I'm glad.
but the whole idea of Godzilla (excluding the one from the 60's and 70's, which make up around 1/3rd to 1/2 of his entire movie career.) was that he was an unstoppable force of nature, humanity's greatest enemy yet it's only hope for survival. GINO did not fulfill that role at all. if anything he was the polar opposite.
and you can still do a serious movie while still retaining the original design. Toho did it with the very original Godzilla, and they've been ATTEMPTING (keyword: attempting) to continue doing so since his first revival in 1984.
I loved the '98 Godzilla, mostly because it was more dinosaur like and I fucking loved dinosaurs at that age. Which is why I still like it. It gives me a sense of nostalgia.
The original American Godzilla concept was great, but they didn't keep him original or even kept him close to original, making it a monster movie with the name "Godzilla" slapped on it.
I prefer the Japanese design, since he is more powerful, larger in size, and does more damage.

Jurassic Park nostalgia or '98 Godzilla nostalgia?

Okay, I guess you have me there. In the '98 movie Godzilla was really just an animal and didn't retain any protectiveness over mankind like the original. But still, the concept of something that large that protects mankind from other giant monsters and aliens and seems to understand the human language is a bit silly. I guess I just don't see how it could be done seriously, and I guess I just don't really have much love for that concept.
Oh, but note that I haven't seen the very, very original Godzilla film from 1954 I don't think.
I loved the 1998 Godzilla.

That's basically what most of Godzilla's movies were about.
Also, he can't understand the human language, he just gets controlled easily via mind control.

Right, and as I said, they were silly. That's why they were enjoyable.

Ah. Got it.
Wait, actually, have you read the plotline of this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_(1954_film)
Godzilla just stomps around and feeds off thousands of people. Sounds like the '98 movie was fairly true to original concept.

Well, he can't really "feed" on them, since they would be obliterated by the time he breathed on them.
He feeds off of atomic radiation, if you count the later movies.
That's what the plotline says, so he fed off them. And I'm speaking for the original concept, not the silly japanese movies that came later. They're funny to watch, but I can't take them seriously.

Silly? Cheesy? Watch this video and tell me this isn't silly or cheesy: (This is from Toho, the same movie company that made Godzilla)

Er... why would I tell you it isn't silly or cheesy?
I'm just saying, if people are complaining that the 1998 Godzilla movie didn't stay true to the original concept of Godzilla, they need to watch the 1954 Godzilla where he WAS an enemy of the people.

By staying true, most of them mean his cosmetic update, which was shunned by most Godzilla fans, and deemed a failure in terms of it being a "Godzilla" movie.
The American Godzilla ran away from simple missiles fired by helicopters, when the original Godzilla would just press forward and brush it off as nothing, since he regenerates his lost organs/skin cells.
Really, the only way they stopped Godzilla in the original film, was with the Oxygen Destroyer bomb, and the only movie that can be used as a direct sequel would be Godzilla Vs. Destroyah, seeing that they both tie in with each other, and even in that movie, Godzilla lost the battle.

aaaannnnndddd you completely miss the point of the movie. the very original movie was a giant metaphor for the atomic bomb. the scene at the hospital after Godzilla's rampage where hundreds of people are dying of radiation burns, even going as far as to showing a mother dying in front of her mourning daughter, and Dr. Serizawa's emotional and moral plight as to whether to use the Oxygen Destroyer when all of a sudden the TV shows scenes from the aftermath of Godzilla's rampage while a choir sings "O Peace O Light Return", and let's not forget when Godzilla is rampagin in tokyo there's a shot of the mother huddling with her children saying "it'll be over soon. we'll be with your father in heaven. just a moment. just a moment"... all that and more are what makes the original 1954 version (WITHOUT Raymond Burr's character) more than just "Godzilla stomping around and feeding off of people".
watch it. the original Japanese version, subtitles and all. you'll see what I mean. GINO never had that amount of depth.

seriously, you've become the epitome of ignorance in this thread. before you tell others to see the '54 film, you should watch it yourself instead of just reading the fucking wikipedia article.

Lol. Chill, man.
I'm just saying, I liked the '98 Godzilla movie. You're taking this far too seriously.
And like I said, yes, I only read the plotline, but the only thing I was trying to decipher was whether or not Godzilla was depicted as a rampant monster or a semi-intelligent man-loving being like in all the other japanese movies. I pretty much gathered enough information from the simple plot outline to figure that out. I didn't say the movie itself was lacking in plot or point and whatnot, I was merely remarking upon your apparent distaste for a less intelligent, less friendly Godzilla featured in the '98 movie, when in fact the original featured the same type of creature.
