Legendary Films considers making a Godzilla movie.
Lol. Chill, man.
I'm just saying, I liked the '98 Godzilla movie. You're taking this far too seriously.
And like I said, yes, I only read the plotline, but the only thing I was trying to decipher was whether or not Godzilla was depicted as a rampant monster or an intelligent being like in all the other japanese movies. I pretty much gathered enough information from the simple plot outline to figure that out. I didn't say the movie itself was lacking in plot or point and whatnot, I was merely remarking upon your apparent distaste for a less intelligent, less friendly Godzilla featured in the '98 movie, when in fact the original featured the same type of creature.
ah, that is true. aside from the campy 70's Godzilla that everyone views him as, he always was just an animal. and yes, GINO was one, too, but Godzilla was portrayed more like an indestructible force of nature, while GINO wasn't, and THAT is the reason all hardcore Godzilla fans (keyword: hardcore) have a distaste for GINO. GINO literally took the "God" out of "Godzilla", while everyone loved Godzilla because he had no weakness. if something took him down, he would get the fuck back up and fuck shit up. it's hard to explain why it appeals so much, but when GINO came and changed everything that made Godzilla "God-Zilla", we were a bit peeved.
honestly, I do appreciate GINO as a film, but he will never be Godzilla to me. he will always remain "Godzilla In Name Only".
I do hope this has cleared everything up in terms of "why a lot of people hate American Godzilla as opposed to Japanese Godzilla".
All right, I do understand what you mean.
Truce.

Jurassic Park nostalgia or '98 Godzilla nostalgia?
I was 4 years old when I watched it, so both :v:
Wow, what a coicidink, Godzilla '98 and Jurassic Park are right next to eachother on my shelf.
If they ever brought Godzilla back and made him CG, but kept the original design of him, just a bit smaller to fit a certain city or timeline (IE Godzilla 2000, 2004, etc.) then I might gain interest.
I really liked the american Godzilla movie as a kid. That shit was cool.

Yeah, I was about to remark upon that. People were saying they liked "Godzilla 2000", but Godzilla 2000 was just another terrible japanese Godzilla movie.
Although I'd have to disagree with you about messing with the original Godzilla's look. I mean. Okay. Come on. If they wanted to make a serious movie they HAD to redo Godzilla's design to make sense and be more realistic. The old Godzilla is widely known for looking like a giant rubber suit (because, you know, it is.) The old movies are only good because they're cheesy as hell, but I very much welcomed a more realistic rendition of the concept. I mean, it's not like they were straying far from anything at all other than the comical appeal of the originals.
Giant lizard - check
City being attacked by the latter - check
From there they can really do anything with it they want, and they did. Which I'm glad.
But it isn't Godzilla. Look at Cloverfield, it was a giant monster attacking a city, and was generally a really cool movie. But don't make some hermaphroditic iguana who can die by missiles into Godzilla, because it isn't.
People watch Godzilla movies BECAUSE of the rubber suit fighting. Sure, the effects in the second series are ten times better, and generally people like them more, but you don't pick up a Godzilla movie expecting a fantastic story with amazing effects. You can make him look more realistic, but don't change his entire design like Tristar did, or its not Godzilla.
Plus, fucking MISSILES? Come on! Godzilla destroyed entire armies without a scratch, let alone a few missiles.

Apache missiles at that.

actually, GINO was done in by missiles from an F-16.

Godzilla was done in by an Oxygen Destroyer Bomb, and later on Destroyah.

yet he still managed to live on in some way. the original lived on through his sequels. in GvDestroyah, he lived on through his son, who was SUPPOSED to get his own stand-alone movie that took place after Destroyah, but it was canceled to make room for GINO.

Too bad they didn't just release that movie instead of GINO, because that would have been interesting, and would have added a few more movies to the original Godzilla storyline.
