Aberdonian here, and I'm going to Canada first chance I get.
Aberdonian here, and I love it. My best friend is from Berwick, and he's chosen to settle in Aberdeen (We're both Ecologists, Terrestrial and Marine respectively), and my girlfriend is Hungarian and settled here, loves it too.
I didnt even say they were wrong, I said tgey COULD be wrong. Wow you guys are hilarious.
Acting as a neutral observer in this argument, I have to agree with NoDachi et al to a certain extent. You can't really question someones credibility and say someone might be wrong without providing something to back it up. Have you considered that you COULD be wrong?
Aberdonian here, and I'm going to Canada first chance I get.
Yes but how will you cope? Canada doesn't have that many sheep as far as I'm aware. Jeep-Eep loves da sheep.
Is the world's largest tourist trap. Princes Street is like a fucking shortbread tin and it's like a fiver a pint.
All the decent pubs aren't far from Princes Street thankfully.
All the decent pubs aren't far from Princes Street thankfully.
I've heard the Grassmarket and the Cowgate are alright. I imagine they'd be populated by student wankers though.

Having lived in Warwick, Suffolk and Dorset I can happily conclude that the United Kingdom has nothing on the Middle East.
Word of advice for those coming to Britain, stay away from Hull, complete shithole
Also stay away from Dover, the only reason it exists is for people to get to France. No one wants to go to France.

Because thats what it happens when you have a country with a shitload of unemployment and people joining in on the "fun". Its beyond me how one cant understand that. Look at Portugal. They get people from almost all other countries, and what happens? They either end up in shitty temporary jobs or just stay unemployed at all. Theres no financial stability whatsoever for anyone but big corporations and tons of businesses end up floping. Fuck sakes, not even locals can get jobs .
wrong accent
ah no m8 i woz just messin with you like
Theres no financial stability whatsoever for anyone but big corporations and tons of businesses end up floping.
I would have thought that more people = more customers = better business. I don't see how a business going bankrupt can be directly linked to immigration?

And I never talked about customers. Where the hell are you getting this stuff?! All I said was that with companies going bankrupt or having low profits, the possibilities of ANYONE finding a job keeps getting lower. Adding more people (whoever they might be, immigrants, locals, aliens from outer space, mole people, whatever you want) who can't even get jobs wont fix fucking anything at all. And even when there are companies, they even start firing people to cut spendings. Teka for example hires people on 3 year contracts, firing after said 3 years so they don't have to remain in the main workforce and get more benefits and payment, and also constantly hires people who are new to the job market because the government gives a small monetary incentive to the company for doing so, instead of hiring people who have already worked there or anywhere else. (which ends in them shooting themselves in the foot when the new workers don't know anything at all and are just bad in every possible way)
But immigration is key for economic growth. Immigrants don't take jobs, immigrants make jobs. Why don't you understand basic economics. We have to keep repeating this over and over again.

Most EU countries removed any work restrictions for Romanians and Bulgarians immediately after Romania and Bulgaria joined the EU, back in 2007, and no doomsday scenario occurred. Can someone call the British and tell them it's 2013 and the world does not revolve around them? Disclaimer: I'm Romanian.
What the fuck. Since when did I ever relate companies going bankrupt with immigration?!
Fair enough, you didn't. However, the way you have been ranting about immigration and then throw in a comment about failing businesses implied you were linking the two.
And I never talked about customers. Where the hell are you getting this stuff?!
You might not have been, but I was. I was showing the economic benefits of immigration according to common sense. Do I need your permission before I put forward an argument?
[...]who can't even get jobs wont fix fucking anything at all.
Yes, but can you show that it will make things worse? If not, the old "if it's not broke don't fix it" springs to mind. All you have done is highlight the positives and negatives of temporary contracts from the perspective of an employer.
But immigration is key for economic growth. Immigrants don't take jobs, immigrants make jobs. Why don't you understand basic economics. We have to keep repeating this over and over again.
In what world of economic stability and growth do you live in where anyone magically starts a business and it doesn't flops? Because I sure as hell would love to know since I'm kind of tired of hearing about the continued unemployment going up and companies going down under day after day. Its as if in your head, every immigrant will be able to create more jobs and have a successful company that wont die in an horrible ball of flames taking every single penny down with it.
[citations needed]
Nevermind about the dozens of companies dying and leaving everyone without a job, or companies firing to reduce costs right? Or the thousands of immigrants who don't have jobs. Or anyone who doesn't has a job, for that matter... Needs a citation from somewhere important to be right! :downs:
In what world of economic stability and growth do you live in where anyone magically starts a business and it doesn't flops?
A world where a company with a good business plan and good financial backing can succeed?

Or anyone who doesn't has a job, for that matter... Needs a citation from somewhere important to be right! :downs:
There are numerous potential reasons for the issues you have just stated. Your knee-jerk reaction is to blame immigration. I would be fine with this is you actually had anything to prove it is immigration which is the culprit. Instead you just keep on spouting "look at the unemployment levels!".
A world where a company with a good business plan and good financial backing can succeed?
4 out of 5 start ups fail though.
But immigration is key for economic growth. Immigrants don't take jobs, immigrants make jobs. Why don't you understand basic economics. We have to keep repeating this over and over again.
When we have 2.5 million people unemployed - most of whom would work in unskilled labour, why would we need a load more unskilled immigrants? They aren't going to make jobs. You're also making the assumption that all immigrants are workers, a lot are going to be women and children who won't work at all - how do they provide economic growth?
While I did find articles supporting the idea that a cap on immigration would be beneficial, I found nothing that suggested that immigration was a threat to the country. I would have thought that more people = more customers = better business. I don't see how a business going bankrupt can be directly linked to immigration?
Mass immigration is a threat because it puts a greater burden on public services - not all immigrants come to work. And more people does not necessarily mean more money, people without money will not become customers. Polish immigrants in recent years, for example, have sent nearly £5.5 billion from the UK back to Poland.
a lot are going to be women and children who won't work at all - how do they provide economic growth?
By stopping the overall ageing of the British population which is fundamental for future economic growth. also read this: http://www.economist.com/blogs/easternapproaches/2013/01/eu-and-immigration

Every single PM from 2000 onwards has constantly said the same thing: "Buckle up and save as much as you can, because taxes are gonna be increased." Which takes me to the second point: Where are you gonna get your customers when they don't have the "power" to buy anything with high taxes and high unemployment? How wont it make it any worse? You assumedly have to give benefits to everyone who starts living in your country, employed or non-employed, don't you? What you guys have been saying WOULD BE RIGHT, in a world where economy would be a stable thing, which this world is FAR from ever having.
By stopping the overall ageing of the British population which is fundamental for future economic growth.
Except we live in an age where machines do most of our work, we do not need a massive young workforce to sustain the older part of our population - a part of the population which will undoubtedly work until a much older age. I also fail to see how allowing people without qualifications or skills into the country will be of any benefit?
