Well don't misunderstand. I don't agree with the notion of closing down borders or deporting immigrants in general, really.
Think of it this way.
You invite someone into your house, he makes a bunch of trash, starts mooching for money, does nothing all day.
Bonus: starts taking your stuff, gets in fights with you over nothing and starts dealing drugs.
You could even exclude the bonus, and you would still get some pretty accurate depictions.
I live in the North (Leeds) opposite a mosque, a lot of the shops near me are owned by Asians. I like where I live though, the people are friendly and I know a few the guys in the shops (I often buy veg and some meat from the halal shop near by). Immigrants have never caused me trouble
I am not sure how rain works over in the UK, but rain in the south of Ireland is damn depressing.
It's like a flurry of drizzle that never stops, it's never heavy enough to make it interesting, but it certainly gets you soaked either way. Even if there is heavy rain, it only lasts an hour usually, and I think it has been months since we had any thunder or lightning.
Back in the US, I used to love the rain (and still do). Here, it's just awful.
It's really horrible sticky stuff, too. It's sort of like sleet, but rather than being rain + snow it's rain + gunky shit instead, and it gets all in your skin and makes you feel unpleasant and sticky. It's sort of like napalm, only all cold and miserable.

really that analogy only works if your house is gigantic - about the size of a country, funny enough
Yes, but who would emigrate there? Greece has currently a terrible reputation.
It only has a terrible reputation and negative opinion because (as I said before) your only source of information about it is media. You cannot (or more like shouldn't) draw a conclusion about the country by news articles, you have to go there yourself.
Ohhh yes it does
I was born there and lived there for sooo many years
And then holidayed back a few times for family
It fucking sucks DICK there
My most recent trip last year was awful, it was really eye opening to go to a popular shopping mall and see dozens of 10-12 year old girls dressed like complete whores
Whenever people in Aus say they want to go to England I just laugh

Yes, except that I think most people would agree that immigration does not operate on the same principles as inviting a guest to your house, in the sense that you've referred to every immigrant, Romanian, Bulgarian or otherwise as one person. They aren't a hivemind, they're human beings.
That and, in the case of refugees or people seeking better working conditions, they aren't supposed to be let in by the country's generosity, you let them in because it's the right thing to do.
Went to London a few times, depressing as fuck, but then again I live far away from big cities and probably just don't like them all that much, too many people too much noise.

I don't think Greece is terrible, I visited there just last year. All I'm saying is that those potential immigrants probably think it's a shithole right now.
Well, it is true.
I like how they think gypsies are the problem and not certain other groups
I like how they think gypsies are the problem and not certain other groups
Gypsies are indeed a problem, everyone in Bulgaria and Romania are really excited and happy that some of them are leaving and going to be bothering someone else.
I agree with the government on this one. I've been to Bulgaria and have Bulgarian friends, they really are better off in their own country, over here its just rain, unemployment an xenophobia, I wouldn't want to subject them to that shit. I'm moving to Bulgaria the first chance I get probably, for sun, guns, and rakia. And smoking indoors.

You can take ours who steel copper cables and electricity from the lamp posts too.

Desperation will lead them anywhere.
I've seen countless Africans there selling watches on the beach or making cardboard stands during the night.
This, northern ireland is awesome.
And you have Game of Thrones so that's a big plus.
I like how they think gypsies are the problem and not certain other groups
Please Clio, enlighten us as to what these certain other groups are (Although I think I can already fucking guess)
They're being serious guys, do you know how horrible having free healthcare and so-and-so weather feels?
Do you have any fucking idea how depressing constant rain is? It's fucking AIDS mate, we didn't get a fucking summer last year.
Its not that bad for those who live here. And for those who don't it seems awful.
As an expat, I have to agree with this. I honestly can't see why people wouldn't want to emmigrate somewhere sunny/laid back at least. The UK is cold and wet. There is a lower standard of living now in the most built up parts while everyone is miserable and crime is rife.
Because no matter how bad we think it is, it's far better than in their home countries. My girlfriend (She's Hungarian) and I were discussing the disparity in income between Britain and Hungary. Working a service, minimum wage job she is earning more than both her parents combined, and in half a year has saved up more than her parents have in their entire life.
It doesn't matter that the cost of living is relatively far higher here, so that "large income" relatively isn't really all that much, the mere fact that it's a massive step up in terms of quality of life is enough for them. Their home countries are only worth staying in if you can earn the very highest wages avaiable there.
The real concern is how easy it is to cheat benefits as opposed to immigration. All you really do is have to look up some jobs online, say you applied for them, give a few details and hand it into the job centre.
I live in spain and trust me its alot worse, its basically the same shit but with currupt goverment.
I would love to move back to the uk any day, spain is not all beaches and sun!
I'd just got back from Thailand.
I nearly got a job in a school and stayed.
Glasgow's hardly a dump, it's a great city.
It's a dump. Edinburgh on the other hand..

Kind of. Been a few years since I claimed jobseekers, but the way it was for me was if you claimed for too long they put you on a week long supervised course where you do nothing but send CV's to prospective employers. Refusal to do it or failure to turn up resulted in jobseekers being stopped. Those who didn't find jobs went onto volunteering instead, I got my old job by volunteering for a few months. Unless you're the bullshit master, cheating jobseekers can be quite tricky.
At least crime levels have been coming down
They aren't a hivemind, they're human beings.
Fucking this. I don't understand why it's so hard for people to grasp this.
It's a dump. Edinburgh on the other hand..
Glaswegian here, I'd rather be in Glasgow than Edinburgh.
Its been my life dream to live in Britain. I dunno now.
Man. I'm will study in UK next year. Of course its better where i live now but I wasn't aware of all the problems UK has. Any tips on what city to choose for living and studying ?

Londons good if you have the money, its easy to get around and there aren't that many bad places there anymore, and it's likely you wont be going anywhere near those places anyway.
[editline]28th January 2013[/editline]
but yeah everything is twice the price in london compared to the rest of the UK
And here's the amazing british plan in action
