It's really horrible sticky stuff, too. It's sort of like sleet, but rather than being rain + snow it's rain + gunky shit instead, and it gets all in your skin and makes you feel unpleasant and sticky. It's sort of like napalm, only all cold and miserable. [editline]28th January 2013[/editline] really that analogy only works if your house is gigantic - about the size of a country, funny enough
What? Its not the size of the house that matters, its the part where someone comes in, demands money and gives nothing back other than trouble.
I live in Britain and I love it here.
dont come to Ireland either, we're closed.
Kinda late but I heard there's a new batch of Lithuanians incoming so you better be prepared :v:
Yes, except that I think most people would agree that immigration does not operate on the same principles as inviting a guest to your house, in the sense that you've referred to every immigrant, Romanian, Bulgarian or otherwise as one person. They aren't a hivemind, they're human beings. That and, in the case of refugees or people seeking better working conditions, they aren't supposed to be let in by the country's generosity, you let them in because it's the right thing to do.
Actually, I didnt refer to any of the groups you mentioned. I said it as if anyone were to do that, invited or not invited. A better analogy would be maybe the situation of getting in a job, do nothing but trouble and demanding pay. It isnt the right thing to do when you're allowing millions to come in and have some money on the house, and thinking that the situation wouldnt be like that is either being dumb or acting dumb. Not even the locals can get jobs. How is it right to accept people into your country who cant get jobs and just mooch off of welfare? That could be called one of the most common "scams" of nowadays. And just by the way, people dont need to be hiveminds...

Whether or not any given immigrant will actually find a job or 'mooch off welfare' is not something you can predict and is dependent on each person's abilities and circumstances. Obviously a disabled person cannot easily get a job in a foreign country, but I somehow doubt you would argue that disabled people should be barred from immigration. Point being, it's not something you can so easily generalize about.
I like Britain. I don't know why everyone hates it, I think it's just because people have lived here their entire lives and are starting to get bored and want to go someplace else. It's true that it has huge problems, but we're far better off than many other european countries and we should be happy about that. Italy, where I used to live, has double the unemployment rate, corruption has almost become a tradition and it's a fucking disaster of a country; and believe it or not most people I meet want to move there and say I'm crazy for having moved to Scotland. Everyone looks at the dark side of the situation, but I think we should stop being pessimistic. A country isn't just defined by it's unemployment rate for fuck sake.

The only thing I really hate about Britain is Daylights saving. I hate only having a few hours daylight in the winter.
You keep forgeting how not even locals can get a job. It isnt easy for anyone anywhere...
Immigration is fundamental for the economy. Even business minded Conservative MPs are saying our strict immigration control is damaging growth here.
I live in America, and it's pretty nice, but I thought America was worse off than the UK - I mean, the UK can't be that shitty, right? There must be plenty of nice spots and nice towns.
London is still fun but I do want to leave eventually.
The entire north side of the country is a dump, the wages are hilarious.
tbh if you don't live south of the river you might as well emigrate [editline]28th January 2013[/editline]
I live in America, and it's pretty nice, but I thought America was worse off than the UK - I mean, the UK can't be that shitty, right?
tbh if you don't live south of the river you might as well emigrate [editline]28th January 2013[/editline] only london
What, it's not that bad. I don't know if you're british, but as a foreigner I've been to quite a few places in Britain and I like the overall asthetics of the cities, the people and all. It's not as bad as the locals make it out to be. Seriously. And what's wrong with the north? I'm in Scotland right now, and yes it has problems, but it's not a shit hole by all means and to be honest I quite like it.
The entire north side of the country is a dump, the wages are hilarious.
Im probably as south as you can and its really shit down here. although I can admit you guys up north have it worse then us

I've been told (by my Romanian flatmate) almost everyone except students that want to leave Romania, already have. Most go to Italy.
only london
Bristol is a pretty nice place from my experiences there
Immigration is fundamental for the economy. Even business minded Conservative MPs are saying our strict immigration control is damaging growth here.
Errr... Some would disagree. Chinese stores actually fuck up business for other local stores. People complain a lot about business going bad because of their much cheaper prices. Good for the customers though, and they are always so friendly.
dont come to Ireland either, we're closed.
which one.
Errr... Some would disagree.
Yeah... clueless idiots.
Aberdonian here, and I'm going to Canada first chance I get.
Aberdonian here, and I'm going to Canada first chance I get.
There's your problem.
Man. I'm will study in UK next year. Of course its better where i live now but I wasn't aware of all the problems UK has. Any tips on what city to choose for living and studying ?
Go to somewhere that isn't London, Cambridge or Oxford.
Yeah... clueless idiots.
You know, not everything is a matter of people just being intolerant and racist.
You know, not everything is a matter of people just being intolerant and racist.
http://www.economist.com/blogs/easternapproaches/2013/01/eu-and-immigration
A number of studies show that immigrants are slowing the ageing of Britain’s population. And despite the popular belief that a new wave of immigrants will increase unemployment, the National Institute of Economics and Social Research says there is no aggregate impact of migration on unemployment.
I'd really love to visit the UK someday see what it's all about. As an average ignorant American it's hard to imagine the UK being a bad place to live. I'm sure it has its share of problems, but being American and thus having little to no exposure of happenings outside our country (including ones we're fighting wars in), we don't get to see much of that. I guess I should just stop being a lazy ass and seek this kind of information out.
It's a dump. Edinburgh on the other hand..
Edinburgh's a dump, too. I grew up there, it sucks, like the rest of bloody Britain. [editline]28th January 2013[/editline]
only london
And that's still saying a lot.
You know, not everything is a matter of people just being intolerant and racist.
You're right. They're completely uninformed over basic economics as well.
Chinese stores actually fuck up business for other local stores. People complain a lot about business going bad because of their much cheaper prices.
An inherent problem with most superstores, I'm sure Tesco and Asda do more damage to small high street businesses than any Chinese supermarket could.
if you think ultra-strict immigration is a good economic policy (and use chinese stores as a reason for such a policy), it's probably time to close the farage videos, ukip manifesto, daily mail tabs and experience the real world for a bit
