New cars to call police automatically from a crash

There would need to be some sort of system in it so it detects between crash and bump, I can only imagine the problems caused by some cars reversing into another by accident or someone bumping a lamp post and police being called out to something they are not required for.
New cars look like ass. I plan on buying a Datsun B210 and fixing it up. 30-40 mpg on a car from the 70's, suck it, hybrids.
Datsun 510, bitch
Fuck that, I'd be so shit at driving bumping into stuff all the time, probably not causing major damage and either me or the car will be arrested for wasting police time, knowing my luck, I will get the car with the malfunctioning device and goes off by the slightest tap of the wheel.....

If you can't drive a car without hitting something, you definitely shouldn't have a license in the first place.
yo I had an idea I pitched to Raytheon and it totally included several pressure sensors that could detect a collision and call the police
I won a tour of the Raytheon building and free lunch the week after
They would secretly use GPS technology to track your every movement! The government is using this to track you! It doesn't SLEEP during non-emergencies! More like STALK! Bastards!
My rights are being violated!!!!!
beep boop hello this is car i have had a terrible accident please help

Letting cars talk would be a pretty intense breakthrough. If you have a wreck, before the car called for help it'd start screaming "Ow you stupid fuck, LEARN TO DRIVE"
What if you had a small amount of drugs in your car?

What if you want to crash unnoticed?

Pretty sure as soon as you hit the truck, they'll know anyway. Those trucks are in close contact with law enforcement, what you really need to worry about is police response time.
On a side note, I have onStar and it's awesome. I got a neat little app on my phone that tells me all about the car and to lock/unlock it :)
If it malfunctions do you get shot?

Oh wait sorry, this is Europe.
And none of you are concerned that they're trying to filter and look through all of your net traffic either, right, uh-huh.
They aren't implementing net traffic filters for safety, they're implementing them to prevent copyright infringement. And I don't trust any government or corporation with that power, because they'll use it to pull some random from his house and extort him for more than the GDP of Zimbabwe. And they can use whatever the hell traffic they want for that as well.
With cars, the only thing they can figure out is "Does the car seem like it's crashed?", so I'm all for it. There's no potential for abuse (as long as it's not "always on"), therefore there's no problem.

i'm not sure that any of us can help you, no one else has your experience of dealing with cops that arrive the instant a disturbance is reported, the game is changed when teleporters are involved.
If the government can get a warrantless order to track you with OnStar, they can do the same for this system. I am extremely skeptical and distrusting of any government effort to mandate GPS devices in cars from the factory.
I'm pretty sure the police can just attach their own tracking devices to your car anyway so I don't see how this system changes anything.
Actually for the savvy criminal this system might actually be a good thing - if they manage to hack it and spoof their location then they could have an instant alibi.
What if the system is damaged in an accident? Makes it kind of useless.
Concerns have been raised over data protection, but the Commission argues that because the eCall normally "sleeps" and does not allow vehicle tracking outside emergencies this was not a problem.
Other functions, like real-time traffic information and data on the availability of parking spaces, "could be incorporated in due course", he added.

Don't these two things kind of contradict themselves?
"Well we won't spy on you since it doesn't monitor where you are at all times... but in the future we can make it monitor you at all times so you can see what kind of traffic there is!
What if the system is damaged in an accident? Makes it kind of useless.
I would think that a system like would be designed to take the abuse of most severe accidents and prevent it from being damaged. And have placed critical parts at the rear of the vehicle. From what I've seen, OnStar equipped vehicles usually have the antenna and the main module all at the rear of the vehicle. Not to say it wouldn't be damaged in a severe rear end collision, but unless it happens to be a fairly large vehicle that hits you I doubt you would be unable to call 911.
