the Job Killing Health law
Calling it that is really stupid. The people losing jobs are actually seniors retiring because they can afford healthcare without having to work themselves to the bone.

I know I'm talking to glaber but whatever
Come on guys, Britain got this over and done with in 1911, get with the times!
Come on guys, Britain got this over and done with in 1911, get with the times!
I think it's Britain's economic situation that has conservatives more scared than ever.
I'm going to make a simple fact. I'm not going to praise anybody or call anybody stupid. I'll make one, simple fact that's unbiased and pretty damning of the actions of these states.
America: Most expensive healthcare, while also being worse than most other rich countries. (30th)
America: You are trying to keep it that way. Stop it.
I've pointed this out, Glaber thinks it's some clerical error and really, america is #1.
I've pointed this out, Glaber thinks it's some clerical error and really, america is #1.
Indeed. Those poor people are all actually illegal immigrants, who conspired to enter the country to steal jobs and bring down America's healthcare ranking.
It's not "Obama's Health Law", you fucking moron. It was written entirely by Congress and voted into law by a massive margin.

If I keep saying it he might believe it once he's hit puberty.

He claims to be 24, but I really doubt that. Why?
Last April or so he began making a spate of Animal Farm-related posts, almost as if he had read the book in English class and thought it perfectly explained the US's situation.
Glaber, until you prove you're over the age of 18, I will continue to call you out on this.
Why can't they just go free healthcare like the rest of the world?
Why can't they just go free healthcare like the rest of the world?
Because we are the noblest, freest, and greatest country currently on Earth.
Demonized because we reject following a trend of socialism.
oh boy
Good argument.
Good argument.
There's not much of an argument to be made against insane delusions of grandeur.
Good argument.
Alright, then, how about I refute your points one by one.
Noblest? Yeah, US foreign policy sure is noble. Since the early 1900s, much of our foreign policy has been based on protecting US business interests and fighting leftists, no matter how many people get hurt in the process or how many shitty leaders get put in power.
Freest? Not by international measures of freedom, such as The Economist's Democracy Index.
Greatest? Not sure how you can measure "greatness".
And "following a trend of socialism"?
What do you mean by that? The state hasn't been taking permanent control of any industry, which is what socialism is.
Obamacare sucks.
how so please explain your arguement and research you have done into Obamacare besides watching tv and reading news articles?

where you alive in 1911 to know this?
socialism.
Socialist legislation that deals with healthcare does not mean socialist government and economy. The fact that this bill can be repealed proves we are not socialist.
I think image macros are permissible in glaber's threads.

Nothing about the health bill is socialist. If it provided for a government takeover of hospitals and made all hospital employees government employees, it'd be socialist.

Our foreign policy of policing the world began with leftists shortly after the new deal. Nice try bro.
That is a democracy index. Not a freedom index.
I'd respect the research more if it included economic freedom.

Right, the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani, done to protect US fruit companies, was definitely done by leftists. Grover Cleveland and his very pro-business administration was far from leftist.
For a ranking of economic freedom, would an index maintained by the conservative Heritage Foundation suit you? The US is ranked 9th, so maybe not.
http://www.heritage.org/index/Ranking
But in trying to solve that problem by forcing people to buy something they may not even want, regardless of need and was optional, you run into the barrier of the US Constitution. Not even the commerce clause can help as not participating in commerce can NOT be regulated. That and using it to justify the mandate is just wrong and you'd have a misunderstanding of what commerce is.
The constitution not explicitly granting the government power to do something is not synonymous with it forbidding the government to do so
I'm actually gonna make a serious post so don't discard me as an idiot just yet.
I hate the current system. Insurance companies basically get paid for people to die.
I hate the new system. It forces people to buy healthcare, and will raise healthcare costs for the middle class.
Instead of forcing people to buy healthcare which is destined to be shitty why not just provide quality healthcare to the populace, where the government subsidizes hospitals with taxpayer money, you know, like the rest of the world?
Only you have to pay for cosmetic surgery.

Rest of the world either nationalizes it entirely or simply nationalizes the insurance (to varying degrees) while the hospitals remain private.
I don't know what kind of system you described
NHS works great, all the cool kids have one nowadays

Thats what I was trying to describe.

Close. I read the book on my own. Not as an assignment. also, why would an 18 year old risk missing the bus to school staying up all night several days a week?
Amendment 10 - Powers of the States and People. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
This is also part of why the states are suing.
I've never seen facepunch get so worked up about some before
Come on guys, why can't we all just sit down and have some tea or something? :smith:
The constitution not explicitly granting the government power to do something is not synonymous with it forbidding the government to do so
Yea, actually the tenth amendment says that if the constitution doesn't say the federal government can do it it's a state issue, not a federal issue.
60 dollars to get a doctor to tell me i have the flu

0 with National Insurance.
I don't get why people are so against National Insurance, it's really not bad here in the U.K. If I broke an arm, the last thing I'd want to be thinking about is how it's going to impact my wallet.
When I first heard of the bill, I had hoped they were going to fully socialize healthcare, in the method that Canada and the United Kingdom have going.
The result is perhaps worse than the original conditions, sadly. American healthcare sucks, if you don't have a job with good insurance as a benefit, it is practically indentured servitude if you get cancer and end up living, or something else long, nasty, and expensive.

Andrew Lansley is fucking your shit up, get with the times
