Because more users totally don't increase the costs to run the service, right?
Yup espcially when the the consumer is paying extra on top of a normal subscription just to mail order a half decent movie they want to view.

That's like saying "Pfft why does this restaurant charge more for filet mignon than for soup, sounds greedy to me."
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/04/21/netflix-canada-price-increase-hike_n_5187812.html Netflix didn't comment about the price increase for Canada yet.

Their business model would be unsustainable if they didn't up prices a marginal amount. And Netflix is a business, not a charity. Its in their best interest to make sure they company doesn't tank in the next year. Being a streaming service is stupid expensive because of distribution rights alone.
I haven't seen a movie I've wanted to see on Netflix in months. It's gone downhill in content imo. [editline]21st April 2014[/editline] Would be fine if increase in price ment I could actually find movies on it.
Make another season of Arrested Development and I'll pay whatever you want me to
They could even bump it up to $15 monthly and it would still be worth it, if you compare it to the cost of going to a theater, buying dvds, or even paying for on-demand tv.
This. Honestly I'm surprised and sort of impressed that Netflix has kept its price so low for so long. For all the content they host, and all the original content they produce, I'm happy to pay an extra dollar or two if they continue to maintain their quality of service.
snip completely misunderstood posts

When it comes to moves that people really want to see, Netflix can't get the rights to any of them. Studios still live in a fantasy world where people actually buy DVDs, so they're extremely averse to licensing anything they think they can make money off of.
I have netflix and hbo go, it's pretty awesome

That's a damn classic movie, how can they not.
Irish Netflix is awful, the selection is nowhere near as good as the US. , to be fair the film selection has gotten better but for TV there's only so much Modern Family and glee you can watch before wanting to bash your head off against a wall.
I'm okay with this, Netflix is a great service, and it's very well worth $8 or $10 a month They could even bump it up to $15 monthly and it would still be worth it, if you compare it to the cost of going to a theater, buying dvds, or even paying for on-demand tv.
I would have no problem paying $15. Heck we're sharing the account in my family so it's about 1.50 eur per person for us right now. That's nothing. I shit you not. For example. If I search for bob's burgers in internet explorer it yields 0 results but in firefox it's available. It's weird.
I wouldn't mind a small price increase in the UK if they actually put on more content. The content in the UK is very limited and stale :<
I still remember those weird ads where they sent movie characters out to go live in people's houses.
I wish we could finally have Netflix in germany. All the other streaming services (including amazon's new service) blow major dicks.
This would be a good place to share what I use to access Netflix (not available where I am). Either Zenmate or Hola works fine
Netflix needs more content. The only thing we use it for is Archer right now They also need a button that remixes shows together like a pandora playlist of sorts. It would be great to just turn on netflix and hit the "TV mode" button and just have a chunk of a random show that it thinks I might like play, and if I want to watch it I can hit a button to start from the beginning. Or, I can "change the channel" and have it go to a different show/movie/etc. Really the only advantage TV has over netflix is that you can just casually browse it when you aren't in the mood for anything specific. Netflix is nice but sometimes I just want to watch whatever or have something in the BG, not necessarily dedicate time to watching something specific. Its why I still like to listen to Pandora vs something like Spotify, my music listening tastes rarely have me wanting to listen to specific artists/albums - I'd rather just "turn the radio on" and have it play something I know I'll like, which Pandora does.
I thought £6 a month was robbing them as I got use out of it, guess I've been used to paying £10 a month for other things so fine with that.
Even if they do raise it by $2.00, you shouldn't be getting it in the first place if $0.50 a week means that much to you. One of the things I don't like about Netflix is that you have to choose the shows yourself. If it gave a random playlist of shows it would be like watching TV but without the adverts. If they implemented this I think we'd see a lot more people abandoning cable in favour of Netflix.
If it's possible I'd update my subscription for the higher paying one. Even with the iffy selection netflix has, watching a cheesy movie or even one of the good ones which they apparently have a good bit of is great. I'd love to be able to help chip in more for even better movies

I say used to - they seem to be phasing out functionality like that starting with this recent update.
Seems reasonable. Netflix is even cheaper than my porn subscription.
I don't think anyone can be legitimately upset about this honestly. Even if they double the rate it's still a really good deal compared to any alternative.
I'd like it if the UK store had more up to date seasons but I get it's all licencing and annoying shit that Netflix has to battle through constantly.
Corner the market then raise your prices. Nothing wrong with it as long as it the increase isnt too drastic and the service stays good.
