The new GMail compose interface to be mandatory for everyone forever

The only thing that kills me is that I cannot copy all emails from the to/cc/bcc fields.
Yes, let's use an external application for something as simple as sending an email just because someone had the brilliant idea of changing something that was not only not broken, but worked absolutely flawlessly.
Have you also thought about the fact that a lot of people (me included) use more than one device at any given time and/or regularly need to access their email from someone else's device?
I'm all for change if it brings something positive to the table.
I hate people like you by the way.
Uh its been the done way of dealing with emails since the inception of the concept. If you want a stable email client that never changes you have to chose it yourself.

Also I must be the only person who actually like the interface then, I have had it enabled since it first became an option.
I dont like the new thing because it makes writing long emails impossible. Why can I just have my big window for emails -_-

Let's see. I've been using Gmail since 2006 (that's 7 years and counting) and I was only mildly chuffed about the couple of redesigns it went through. This is the first time that I've ever even thought about needing anything else other than Gmail to send a goddamn e-mail. Why should anyone need to switch to a non-web solution for something so stupidly simple?
And again - I don't use one computer - I regularly need access and send e-mails from different devices.
There is no cure for my ail, other than a different mail w/ forwarding. (Which for me means having to print a couple of hundred new business cards)

I love it myself. Its compact and loads faster, and I can go between emails without having to open new tabs which is also quite nice
However I can sort of see why the old interface was better for other people, especially for those that frequently send long emails, but why not just get a dedicated email client then? It'd probably serve you better.

So did I, and I bet majority of people did - Google could easily tell how many people did stick with the new design and how many wouldn't.
You know how it goes, tho, vocal minority etc.
Seems like yet another example of the current UI trend of making things minimalistic to the point of obfuscation, because apparently some people have a medical condition where they shit their pants if they ever see more than five buttons at once.
I noticed the change happen a couple weeks back. At first, I hated it but after like a day or two I actually began to like it.
Step 1: Get a standalone email client of your choice (Outlook, Thunderbird, whatever)
Step 2: Configure it to retrieve and send emails from and through your Gmail box using pop3/IMAP/SMTP
Congratulations, you will never have to worry about the scary concept of change, as long as you don't change your email client!
Chaaaange! Chaaaaange, you guys!
Why does every shitty software update have to have the regulars proclaiming "oh no you guys are just afraid of change, I'm cool wid it"
This update is utter shit and stupid, and there's been no justification for it, or for forcing it upon us so strongly. And most people seem to agree with me.
I hope whoever's been doing Google's UI design since they bought Youtube is safely returned to the zoo they were abducted from one day.
I also just noticed that you can't attach multiple files at the same time - you have to either do it one by one or upload them to your Google Drive.
.zip is a magical thing. Not by any means a proper fix, but don't forget about it.

So you have the statistic of all the Gmail users on how many of them did want to use it and how many stuck with the old design back when it was optional, you know, like Google does, to be able to support such a statement?
Facepunch is a pretty narrow selection of Google's customer base. Even if the opinion of everyone on Facepunch's was completely negative, it means very little, and that isn't even the case, anyway.
This too, I have no problem selecting multiple files.
the one thing they should have done is add a button in the corner to expand to the old layout. No reason to get rid of it completely.
Ahaha, you are right. I haven't even tried it because as I said, I barely use the web client, but it works for me flawlessly. I can pin multiple files at once, like nothing.
And yeah, I guess it could just stay optional, I would have no problem with that. I dunno why do they always strictly axe and bury everything.

um you can just press the arrow and it pops out a window
[editline]19th April 2013[/editline]
did nobody else realize this??
I never even knew this was not mandatory. Ive been using it since day 1.
I like it.
Seems to really suck for the people having to rely on it. :/
My own email provider underwent a rather positive design change recently, but I still prefer my browser's inbuilt email client. Just one less application/website to think about.
I still have that old gmail look for some reason.

You can ctrl/shift click the buttons that represent the emails. On top of that, Ctrl + A still works. It's even easier now than it was before.
