When Iran announced it they already said this was a conceptual prototype design and that the video is a toy scaled down. These news articles are misleading.
That explains a lot then.

I just got shown these by someone who was browsing operatorchan (so they are probably also on /k/)

People have too much time on their hands but it is awesome.

So much effort and time devoted to a worthless cause. Iran already said this was a concept design for their planned jet. They haven't even built it yet.

You have to admit though it is kind of funny though, the fact they are using off the shelf stuff. I dunno, for just showing it off I thought they would have just basically made some fancy look things out of cardboard.
just to state my knowledge, i fly planes in real life and have been doing so for quite awhile.
now just because this prototype may have this Garmin equipment in it does not mean the aircraft will fly any diffidently compared to the american counterpart, lets say the Iranians where able to pump out 20 of these per american jet and it could fly super sonic, they could use it souly as a suicide craft at times.
but yes the design and look has nothing to do with how it fly's just look at the Boeing x-32 it fly's better than the f-35 but lost mainly due to the look and a bug during test flight, yet it is much better.
not to mention recently the f-35 was completely scraped and a new version of the f-35A was introduced due to cockpit structure flaws and malfunctions, on a technical standpoint its a disaster for the engineers to repair and now i have done quite a bit of plane repair and inspection over my time and it is a hard job.
so in closing statement don't judge a plane on its looks or equipment and just because the ailerons at the front are small does not mean it wont maneuver good, less surface that is there for the wind to contact means more speed and at high speeds or super sonic speeds a tiny amount of chan

Isn't this is the design philosophy we had in the 50s, small wings, low maneuverability, and high speeds?
its not the control surfaces size that really matters its the way the aircraft is designed to focus the airflow around the surfaces in certain ways, yes in some planes tiny wings and tiny ailerons mean fuck all maneuverability, but if you get it right and a way so it works in sync with the rest of the plane it can move great, now this thing may fly like nothing you have ever seen before.
just because many people think one way does not mean its true, people's theory's have been proven wrong time and time again, also apache249 what is your expertise other than wiki ?

Documentaries, research, and ounce of logic. You've flown a Cessna, right? By all means, enlighten me. Explain to me how high wing loading can still lead to supreme agility. I am genuinely interested in learning more.
You have to admit though it is kind of funny though, the fact they are using off the shelf stuff.
would make it way quicker and less costly to prototype though
this whole airplane basically looks like the embodiment of low end modern technology + very tight budget
yes i have flown a Cessna in the past, but again i ask you, your knowledge.
but once again their design is a prototype and the control surfaces at the front can Chanel the winds in certain ways to work with the back section wings or what ever they call it, to make much more maneuverability, just srsly don't always believe common knowledge as the absolute definite, look at virgin galactic and there revolutionary design to re-enter the earths atmosphere.
any way i'm done its clear every one here has a degree in astrophysics.
-edit-
thanks Apache for editing while i made my post, i don't know how this thing will fly exactly a plane is always speculation and theory before it actually flies, but what i'm saying is the control surfaces Chanel the wind around the aircraft in certain ways to increase maneuverability that is not possible in other planes this may be why this Iran jet has such strange frog looking back part (which could also have some sort of vtol in it to require less runway to take of.)
So this jet hasn't been confirmed as fake or anything yet? When it is, just remember I called it
Apparently the flight footage has been proven fake, and the aircraft they've shown is likely just a mock-up (although the article is receiving so much traffic it's DDoS'd the site.)
look at virgin galactic and there revolutionary design to re-enter the earths atmosphere.
but this airframe isn't exactly a revolutionary configuration
it's unlikely that this thing is designed to be supersonic, as well
a plane is always speculation and theory before it actually flies
airplanes are always designed to fit a particular set of operational requirements, so more general parameters would be estimated fairly well before flights take place
yes, there are more details that are found through flight testing, but it's not a complete mystery how a certain aircraft will fly until it flies
[editline]4th February 2013[/editline]
unless the engineers are just throwing pencils at a piece of paper until something airplane-like turns out
i said theory meaning they would have a general idea of how it would fly via wind chambers and computer simulation, but truly they don't know certainly until you take the leap and first test it.
would make it way quicker and less costly to prototype though

I mean I was expecting to see like cardboard with pictures printed out and stuck on them.

Wait, is this a car radio on the bottom of the panel?
no its a transponder.
i said theory meaning they would have a general idea of how it would fly via wind chambers and computer simulation, but truly they don't know certainly until you take the leap and first test it.
Well, true, but there are going to be some pretty obvious limitations to it's capability from the start based on how it's shaped. For example, those wingtips don't lend well to supersonic flight, so I'm guessing it's not going to be much of an interceptor.
Also, if they keep those intake ports next to the cockpit, the stealth capability is going to be drastically reduced. I didn't notice those in my earlier post, so I'm not even sure it's going to be as stealthy as the F-117. All in all, unless it's just going against Iran's immediate neighbors, this aircraft probably won't be able to survive long in prolonged conflicts. There doesn't appear to be any measures to reduce the thermal signature, so that would be a definite problem if facing off against current generation aircraft.

Intakes are fine if the actual shaping of the airframe has good RCS performance. Judging from the intakes shown in 3d models in videos about the plane it has some sort of serpentine intake ducts thus the intake ducts become a radar trap and most importantly, radar do not reflect off of the engines blades.

Aren't interceptors being quickly discontinued in most airforces though? In part because they generally suck at actual dogfighting and are unable to take down a fighter screen.
Honest the aircraft looks like an aircraft that's not designed to combat high end militaries, but instead an aircraft that's almost perfect for the a lot of areas.

Oh god lol
Paint it red and you get the ADF-01 from Ace Combat.
