Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products. And just because something is made doesn't mean you're using it, that picture is literally the worst thing ever.
Meat pie kills you eh?
On the industrial scale it certainly does reduce their quality of life, but I spent a few weeks staying at the farm of some of my family's friends some years ago.. they let all their cows roam around free as they please. No fences, no boundaries.. there's nothing but thousands of kilometers of untouched wilderness beyond the farm. I'm pretty sure unhappy cows wouldn't stick around home when given a free opportunity to go wherever they want. Just because you own animals doesn't mean they are automatically treated badly or are perpetually unhappy. The issue with the human diet doesn't lie in what it is, it lies in how what it is is treated on a day to day basis. Animals are treated very badly in the food industry and that aspect certainly does need to change, but not by eliminating meat from the human diet.
"I went to one farm and it was nice, therefore they're all nice!" [editline]10th April 2012[/editline]

godwin in 4 pages [editline]10th April 2012[/editline]
Moral vegetarianism (and by extension, veganism) is such an idiotic thing considering the amount of animals that die in the process of harvesting crops, let alone other products that include animal products (like, for example, vaccines).
lol you realize that most harvested crops go to feed animals for human consumption, right? So regardless of how many animals and whatever is harmed during the harvest, it's still less than if you ate meat. Veganism, in my opinion, is just about doing your best - or at least trying - to do as little harm as possible. People take this to different lengths, some going as far as being a 'raw vegan', which I find ridiculous. I try not to judge people, though. Because I don't know them, or their reasons. You should try it. Reducing harm to animals, the earth, etc, is so horrible!
I bet Vegans still eat spiders while they sleep :v:
"I went to one farm and it was nice, therefore they're all nice!"
Well, have you visited any diary farms? Dairy farms today take better care of animals than they did 100 years ago. In one hundred years productivity will be up and care of the animals likewise.
So does shoving a finger down your throat after every meal. What is healthy is another matter.
Well, that depends on how clean your finger is! :v:
no, you could if you tried harder than buying gardenburgers, morningstar, or boca crap. Try buying some wheat gluten or TVP and using that, maybe? It's something like $2 a pound and that's dried stuff that you need to add water to, so it really costs very little.
So you say no, and then suggest that I replace my entire varied diet with a list of 2 ingredients, which happen to be cheap. I think you are doing nutrition wrong. I am not talking about name brand pre made food, I am talking about the entire vegan industry that exists in capitalist markets. It's a specialized product, so it is overpriced by it's very nature. The fact that you could only list 2 things that are affordable emphasizes that.
We're omnivores, not herbivores, and not carnivores. Plus, the amount of grass and stuff that cows have to eat is massive. We would have to eat a large amount of plants to get the same stuff we would get from eating animals. All energy comes from the sun, goes to the grass, gets eaten by herbivores, herbivores get eaten by predators, and then they die, going back in to the ground, starting all over again. The logic process in my post is complete shit but hopefully someone will get what I am saying and state it in a better fashion. Note: I don't have a vast amount of knowledge on dietary needs and all that jazz, but hey, there's my 2 cents.
Well, you should stop drinking water with your nose then.
Meh, it goes to the same place. Stop telling me how to do things.
[img] In more ways than one!
I was wondering why that beef pie tasted like pork...
Thread title and picture reminded me of this
I don't think anyone will deny that vegans lead a healthier life than some other people, but the reason for that is that they follow a strict diet in order to get their proteins and nutrients. A non-vegan who strictly follows a (non-vegan) diet with the same vigor will lead just as healthy a life. So in other words, this advertisement is a waste of time, because obese people would never be able to follow a vegan diet if they can't even stick to a regular diet. /thread in a nutshell Also, I love how animal rights activists seem to believe that once we eliminate animals from the consumer market, animals will get better lives. As if Joe the Farmer is going to keep all his expensive animals when he can't earn any money of them. Should activists ever get their way, it would result in the slaughter and extinction of pretty much every domestic farm animal.
Should activists ever get their way, it would result in the slaughter and extinction of pretty much every domestic farm animal.
that's not a very coherent conclusion. animal rights, regardless of what PETA might say, isn't anti-meat or anti-farm. it's more about making sure you don't pack animals into small metal cages with open wounds and bone decay, all of that being a result of the undeniable over-production and over-packing of meat in western countries. it's a medical fact that humans are more unhealthy if they eat meat more often than anything else, and it shouldn't be crazy to point out that a lot of issues exist with over-consumption of meat.
If everyone were to go vegan, wouldn't there be a lot less plant life?
If everyone were to go vegan, wouldn't there be a lot less plant life?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_agriculture
If everyone were to go vegan, wouldn't there be a lot less plant life?
Well there would be less animals for sure.
I know tons of fat vegans. Instead of eating meat they just a lot of sugar and Taco Bell (beans instead of meat)
For some reason, ALL of the vegans I know are almost morbidly obese. I guess they're people who have had some seriously bad eating habits and now try to make it up by going vegan but doing nothing else?
Then how do cows grow muscles?
Well, I don't care if you are a cow or not, but when I look into the mirror, I see a perfectly healthy human. In the end we all die, no matter how we lived. So why not have a fun and tasty life?
You can go "vegan" and still be a fatfuck.
IIRC since vegan is such a "poor" diet, they have to use peanut butter on a lot of things since it contains so much protein, like 30%. Although the other 70% are like pure fat.
IIRC since vegan is such a "poor" diet, they have to use peanut butter on a lot of things since it contains so much protein, like 30%. Although the other 70% are like pure fat.
Only if they're stupid. They could just keep up on their legume intake.
That billboard made me hungry so I went out and bought a steak and kidney pie.
Only if they're stupid. They could just keep up on their legume intake.
A vegan diet sounds very boring from the large amount of certain things you'd have to eat to avoid deficiencies.
A vegan diet sounds very boring from the large amount of certain things you'd have to eat to avoid deficiencies.
hardly large amounts: lentils and soy are much denser in protein than meat.
In the end we all die, no matter how we lived. So why not have a fun and tasty life?
Because that is NOT healthy.
Only if they're stupid. They could just keep up on their legume intake.
Not everyone likes to eats beans and such all day
Not everyone likes to eats beans and such all day
1. TVP (the primary meat substitute for vegans) is, as the name suggests, very high in protein. It is made from soy. 2. As I've said, legumes are far higher in protein than meat - you need to eat far less - most people eat far to much meat anyway. 3. Legumes are not the only source of proteins. And of course: of you don't like vegetables don't start living a fucking vegan lifestyle.
someone's not being an asshole to vegans? MUST BE VEGAN, THE BASTARD
You must not be smart enough to understand a joke.
