I always wondered about the whole "professional movie editors and designers use macs!"
But, pc has Adobe, Vegas, and a considerate amount of free music editors as well. We also get 3d editing programs such as maya, and if you have trouble with memory you can just get another 2-4gb for under 100$.
ahhahaha, tell a professional in the movie industry that you use vegas and he'll laugh in your face. programs like final cut pro and avid far surpass that of editors like vegas or premiere.
ahhahaha, tell a professional in the movie industry that you use vegas and he'll laugh in your face. programs like final cut pro and avid far surpass that of editors like vegas or premiere.
also, companies like pixar use proprietary software for 3d rendering and animation. clearly you know nothing about how professionals work

Now you're saying something completely different.
You go from saying Mac is for serious business people and Windows is for kids with games to saying Mac is the preferred platform for designers.
yes, it is the preferred platform for designers because that's something that's just hanging behind from when Mac was better at media related work (read the bottom post on the first page), now Windows and Mac can do the exact same job just as good and effeciently. It's all about taste now.
reread my post idiot and maybe you wouldnt be saying garbage like that
ahhahaha, tell a professional in the movie industry that you use vegas and he'll laugh in your face. programs like final cut pro and avid far surpass that of editors like vegas or premiere.

Look harder in movie credits. You'll often see Premiere Pro, After Effects and Sony Vegas in the credits, amongst other programs. There is no one standard program in the professional movie industry.
Reread my post and maybe you would see that I made perfect sense and right now you're making none.
Mac is the most preferred OS in the industry, I said that. That doesn't make it the superior one, because it performs just as well as the Windows nowadays, they have the same specs and have the same programs (some Windows and some Mac exclusives remains of course) and have the same hardware.
@dewaf
I don't know shit about professional movie making.
I was actually meaning to have that as a question, like this:
What are the differences in programs that are used with a mac that are different then programs like Adobe?
I like how dewaf is on a forum based on a video game saying that video games are for children.
I always wondered about the whole "professional movie editors and designers use macs!"

it's pretty obvious you have absolutely no idea about what you're talking about
vegas is absolutely awful, no one in the industry uses it
no one
they use final cut pro because it's cheap as fuck compared to it's biggest rival (AVID movie composer) and includes a lot of very good professional tools in a very well integrated software suite
you get a great offline editor, colour grader, motion graphics software, compression, conversion and mastering software for well over half the price of AVID
professionals and production companies are buying mac pros in bulk and final cut pro because it saves then money in the long run, they pay less for the software so they can renew that more often and don't swap out their hardware so often either, it's also cheaper to buy in bulk
yes windows has 'adobe'
that's great really
but it's not final cut studio and no one uses premiere pro either, because final cut studio offers much more for a lot less money
after effects is a great piece of software, and is widely used, but often with final cut. i have a friend who was working for a production company up until last month and they had mac pros running adobe creative suite along side final cut. It's the best of both worlds.
as for sound software i'm not really sure why you think production companies or recording studios would be using free software, they don't because there's no 24/7 professional support if they need it
logic studio is very well integrated with final cut studio as well which is another advantage
Maya is also developed for osx
there are many more 3d programs for osx as well
as for memory on almost all macs, especially mac pros you can swap out memory for better
you can use non apple branded ram and it's a hell lot cheaper, I've worked in a graphic design studio and that's what they did
the fact is that the broadcasting industry in the UK at the very least is very quickly switching over to macs and final cut, as opposed to windows and media composer
AVID is going out of fashion very quickly here
i was talking to a tutor the other day and told me about a director who's been working with media composer for 15 years, and he's recently started editing a documentary for discovery channel and because they only use final cut he's had to start learning how to use it
[editline]08:31PM[/editline]
note my post mainly refers to the broadcasting industry, in the film industry media composer still has a very large market share along with final cut
[editline]08:34PM[/editline]
also really why does anyone give a fuck that garry's mod is now on osx
does it really have that much of an affect on your life that you need to rage about it like a 12 year old
Alright, thanks for that long piece of info.
But uhhh, how does getting non apple branded ram become cheaper then what it would cost for a pc? Or are you just saying you can get regular ram that's cheaper and works better then the apple branded ones?
I honestly don't know much about macs, and how the programs differ, I only have one friend that has a mac that he got from within the year, he bought it because he was going to college and learning about professional film making himself. He sold it though and bought a cheaper one, with a core i5 and a smaller screen and says there was no need for him to have that other one.
I honestly don't know much about macs
then stop talking about it like you know so much
then stop talking about it like you know so much
What a retarded comment, where did I say I knew so much about it?
Quote me on it, please.

i never said it was cheaper
what i was saying is that if you buy ram from somewhere other than the apple online store you can get it for the same price for ram that goes into windows machines because its basically the same thing
well good for him i guess
Most macs that can run steam use the same graphics chipsets as a netbook, so it MIGHT not work very well.

Netbooks use Radeon 4850's/Nvidia 330's or better?

Anyways, welcome non raging Mac users to the wonderfull mod of creativity.
Mac's are gonna have one hell of a time playing that. Single Player let alone MP Mods like flood. I bet if you played with a full server with some Mac players you could for sure pull them out for playin sooo slow.

What? Why would they have a problem playing and why would they be slow?
You're setting a bad example for Mac users.
Stop being such a hypocrite
Most mac users I've played with, as a proven fact, play as engineer. Most of them suck so bad at it and name themselves by their name "hank.hill".

And the amount of money you have.
Heh, we should call Gmod iGmod for a while, it would be classy :d:
I have no problem with Macs, the only thing I hate is the god damn hardware. Overpriced and poor, although I'm sure most modern macs can run at atleast medium.

I agree with you!
I had no idea that people are this stupid! Why does it even bother you guys that "Macs can't right click!" and "It sucks to play on a mac, cuz it's so slow!" You all begin to sound like the "Steam for mac review-guy" Holy shit! Why do you care??
IF MAC WAS A FAILURE FOR THE GAMING INDUSTRIES, WHY THE FUCK DID GARRY BUILD A VERSION TO THE MAC???? AND VALVE!!
Most of the posts in this thread are humorous, and also really pathetic.
