Not sure how much of this is recent, just got it forwarded it to me, watching now.
I can't imagine how you would've fared in the Cold War.
Probably would have died.
I feel that by 5pm (east coast) we're gonna be seeing a some shit going on in Washington
Very carefully.
you must be an extremely cautious person.
China won't hurt America if we destroy NK, will they?
It's all over the news and my brother doesn't believe me.
But this is the worst it's ever been. Sure, gunfights at the border maybe, but 200+ artillery shells at a civilian populated island? that's too far
A full on war isn't going to do shit for either sides. Nothing is to be gained. It's just going to turn out to be an "accident" or something like that. The UN will get mad, blah blah blah. North Korea has no need to get into a war. They would get absolutely steamrolled. South Korea would become a fucking island.
Kind of like that stupid Russia vs. Georgia thing. Everyone was flipping their shit and saying this could start a giant war blah blah, their prime minister chews on a tie, and the fucking thing is over in like a week.
Yeah, it's really not worth getting worked up over.
No? Two hundred plus rounds of artillery is a little worse than some border shootings.
200 mortar rounds isn't big. If they were going big they would've bombed Seoul but they're just doing shit right now.
War has rules too. Provoke and wait for a response. And 200 shells is a harassment barrage (literally what it's called). Just wait. See what happens. Either NK will back down, or SK will stand up for the casualties and fight back.
I don't really get the Korea's... N Korea openly attacks S Korea and all S Korea does is poke N and say "C'mon man, cut it out?"
Is it simply because S doesn't have the strength of N?
Or is N really that desperate for global attention?
That's war for you. Once you fire a bullet, you can't take it back.
I wouldn't say "war"... yet.

Kim has been working with CIA all along!
China won't hurt America if we destroy NK, will they?
Oh god no. China doesn't give two fucks about them any more. Back in the Korean war they were buddies but nowadays they would probably join in.
Probably would have died.
You would have bought one of those bunkers that do no protection from a nuke for sure.

A Torpedo fired was an "accident". 200 Rocket Artillery shells fired at a small island, and they all hit? Please explain how that's an "accident"

In this, the reporter mostly makes the point that artillery is not something we've seen before between NK/SK, and expressed concerns about the escalatory nature of the conflict. He also gives some background such as a strong military garrison on the island and the local time(2:34 PM) the attack started.
Finally something more interesting than the iraq conflict in my lifetime. I need to stay up to date CNN live isn't connecting.
Who else is building bomb shelters here?
This shit is far more severe than more recent shenanigans by NK, there may actually be some serious mobilization.
I wouldn't say "war"... yet.
War- the waging of armed conflict against an enemy.
Just because they have a peace treaty, doesn't mean they're friends. And NK rarely holds that treaty true. It's war. Maybe not on the scale we're used to, but it's still aggression.

If S. Korea does anything more than poking back then their capitol gets turned into a crater filled warzone. That usually isn't good.

S probably just doesn't want to fight
( They just want to play Starcraft or Maple-Story)

true.

But if North Korea do anything of the sort, the entire country will be destroyed. They know this just as well as anyone.
No? Two hundred plus rounds of artillery is a little worse than some border shootings.
Yeah. Imagine if North Korea had boarded an American ship in international waters, killed one of their sailors, stolen the ship and taken the entire surviving crew hostage while capturing sensitive intelligence information.
Or if North Korea commandos stormed the capital building in South Korea, killing several politicians and attempting to assassinate the president.
Or if North Korea built massive tunnels under the DMZ, designed to allow them to ferry troops and supplies under the ground in the event of a war they were planning.
Or if North Korea deliberately torpedoed a South Korean ship, killing dozens of sailors.
Or if North Korean soldiers killed two American soldiers brutally with axes within sight of the DMZ.
God, any one of those would have been cause for serious concern.
Oh, they all actually happened? And no war came of it?
No? Two hundred plus rounds of artillery is a little worse than some border shootings.
You're not considering what countries we are talking about. North Korea and South Korean erupt in stupid brawls all the time. They sunk a South Korean ship and killed tons of seamen (lol) and everyone knows it. Yet that ended in a scolding.
But if North Korea do anything of the sort, the entire country will be destroyed. They know this just as well as anyone.
It's not that simple.
It's not that simple.
I know, thing is that they understand that doing something rash like bombing Seoul will bring everyone down on them. They're already pushing it with things like this and I'm not sure their thinking is completely rational but they know when they are looking down the barrel of a gun.
