Oh wow, four of us all posted the same thing. EDIT: make that 6.
There is no way we are at defcon 1 now.
He's talking about South Korea.
N.Korea seriously needs to industrialize. A few foreign occupations might do it..
Did the US strongly condemn the North Korean attack? My eye sight isn't that well.
Heh, streaming all this to my friends. A tiny war room conversation has been set up.
For you, or for the US? DEFCON is an imminent nuclear attack. I don't really see that happening.
DEFCON 5 Lowest state of readiness DEFCON 4 Increased intelligence watch and strengthened security measures DEFCON 3 Increase in force readiness above that required for normal readiness DEFCON 2 Further increase in force readiness, but less than maximum readines DEFCON 1 War is highly likely
There's no way the US would be at Defcon 1... I think we're sitting pretty at Defcon 3, still... I don't even think the US went to Defcon 1 during the Cuban Missile Crisis
They didn't. I was asking if it was DEFCON 1 for us, or Korea. I didn't think we'd be at DEFCON because things aren't that bad. Maybe THREATCON is at a different level though.
Oh wow, four of us all posted the same thing.
Oddly enough if you look, the mews agency changed the wording of their statement in the 2 or so seconds it took to get reposted.
There is no way we are at defcon 1 now.
Yeah, what happened to Defcons 2 through 5?
Oh wow, four of us all posted the same thing. EDIT: make that 6.
well shit.
Hey guys, has the US condemned North Korea's actions?
North Korea has a Defcon system?
I really think this is the last thing North Korea can pull off before officially every one else jumps down their throat.
Hey guys, has the US condemned North Korea's actions?
I don't know, let me check....
North Korea has a Defcon system?
Why wouldn't they?
He's talking about South Korea.
Oh, well then fuck.
This right here is where either shit hits the fan or nothing happens. If NK stops, nothing happens. If they continue, that shit's war.
ALERT: White House - US strongly condemns North Korean attack, urges an immediate ceasefire - Reuters
Well this might be over shortly. I was expecting something cooler.
North Korea has a Defcon system?
South Korea does.
I don't trust MBC... who are they?

Man this thread is moving fast, im trying to watch the Vices guide to NK and keep up on this thread.
Not really, while the DPRK has a pretty strong land based army, and some naval power, America and most of NATO so grossly overpowers them that it wouldn't be anywhere on that scale, at least I would say. That, and it's likely not to be the same kind of war Vietnam and the Iraq war are, i.e. invading armies or guerrilla fighters heavily entrenched. NK has a centralized military, one that would be easier to target. Of course, IANAG so what do I know
It's not a matter of tech, it's the fact that they are numerous, and many of them might possibly fight to the death due to fanatical devotion. Either that or it may be the opposite; once the boarders come down they realize their country is a festering shithole and everybody around them is doing very well, most people there are living under a grand illusion. That's not to say they just couldn't stage a huge raid like the NVA did on the tet offensive, and cause some serious damage. If the soldiers are incredibly devoted, it will be a really ugly fight. It's not some ragtag army based in a largely flat country like the Iraqi army in Desert Storm or "operation enduring freedom" this could be a fanatically devoted army fighting in a rough mountainous country. Neither of which are a good mix. Take a look at Vietnam, the US alone lost only a mere 60,000 soldiers, whereas the NVA lost millions, but it was a still a really ugly, brutal, and vicious war for the western sides.
