China is just an economic ally, and they would back down as soon as shit hits the fan. China can't afford to lose support from all the western nations invested in it. Although it would be interesting if China didn't back down. Imagine the chaos that would happen in the rest of the world. Everything is produced in China, and if China didn't back down and the US and other Western nations pulled out economically they'd be fucked. So in reality if China were to play it's cards right and get incredibly lucky they could end up winning out on both sides.

It was the senior officers' ignorance in the casualties that these new weapons could produce that made WWI such a meatgrinder.

The Generals couldn't keep up the the technological advances and relied on tried and true tactics before the war. This is different. Warfare is much more elastic now than ever.
