[release]Obama to call China's Hu over Korean crisis
Washington (CNN) -- With top U.S. officials continuing to declare that help from China will be key in calming tensions between North and South Korea, President Obama is planning to call Chinese President Hu Jintao in the next few days to discuss the critical situation, according to senior administration officials.
The phone call will come just days after Obama held a bilateral meeting with Hu on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Seoul, South Korea, where administration officials were quick to tout the fact that it was the seventh face-to-face meeting the two leaders have had since Obama took office.
"I think that the region looks to the United States, with respect to China, to engage in a positive, constructive relationship with China," White House National Security Adviser Tom Donilon told reporters in Asia earlier this month. "We obviously pursue our interest; they pursue their interest. But I think the region looks to us to engage that relationship and manage that relationship in a positive and constructive way."
Obama is also to planning to host Hu for an official visit to Washington in early January, but the relationship will be tested much sooner with U.S. officials already putting not-so-subtle public pressure on China to step up now to cool tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
U.S. officials say China's help is key in getting North Korea to ratchet down the crisis caused by Pyongyang's deadly strike on a South Korean military installation.
Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Wednesday in a CNN interview that, "It's really important that Beijing lead here" to help diffuse the situation because of its ability to break through and communicate with the secretive North Korean regime.
"I've believed for some time that probably the country that can influence North Korea the most is -- is clearly China," Mullen said in an interview for this weekend's edition of CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS."
Mullen also alluded to China's desire for stability in the region, as well as its economic ties to North Korea, by saying that "China has as much to lose as anybody in that region with the continuation of this kind of behavior and what the potential might be."
Even before the crisis, U.S. officials have been very careful to downplay any tensions with China that have flared up over issues like currency reform in order to show a united front.
Donilon insisted to reporters "there was not any kind of heated exchanges" on currency or any other issues when Obama and Hu sat down face-to-face earlier this month.
"With respect to the tone or temperature in the meeting, I didn't find anything being any more heated than I had seen in prior meetings, frankly," Donilon said then. "So I don't think that there was any kind of lecturing back and forth. It was a good discussion back and forth about a range of issues."

Article is mostly about reiterating that China is key to calming NK down, but I still thought it would be worth posting here.
Looks like they all decided to have a conference in Gmod.

I just red that the best korea declared a war(for the hundreth time or so) over CNN
Was the war really declared again or is it just that the CNN finally caught on on the retaliation thing?

Wow, that video gave me cancer.
So if this does break out into a war, America will go to war and so will Australia. Because we really love joining America in every war.
I'm almost hoping there is a war, if there isn't NK might stay an oppressive totalitarian dictatorship with starving people, at least if there was another war if NK did something stupid (and china would probably stop their support) after a time of turmoil Korea might finally be unified, granted the north will need lots of improvement and it might be even more tough than when West and East Germany united but at least North Korea won't exist anymore.

Umm... They are constantly in war, but currently there is a ceasefire.

The UK and Canada can come too.
As much as i think North korea is underestimated, they'd be defeated before Australian troops could even arrive.

It only takes like 48 hours to get there via plane. But maybe your right, who knows. Lets just hope China and the US can do something.
It'd take alot more time for a country to organise and mobilise an invasion force.

True, but Russia did it pretty fast in 1914. Yet again they did have plans in place.
I'm going to summarize the current situation for those joining us now;
Assuming North Korea doesn't do anything unexpected (I mean, don't they always?)
Nothing will happen for awhile. South Korea is on the highest alert short of war and are threatening retaliation if attacked again.
North Korea shows no signs of doing that, but claims that they will if they're provoked. They claim they were provoked and justified in striking the island because the garrison stationed there fired off artillery rounds into the sea to the East and South as part of a training exercise which was an act of aggression according to North Korea
The US is on it's way to do military exercises with South Korea, which -may- be seen to the North Koreans as an act aggression and start another conflict.
tl;dr: Cold war - Korea
EDIT: Oh, also
FLASH: South Korean defence minister resigns
The defense minister resigning is really troubling. I bet he will be replaced with someone far less passive...
Why did he resign?
He probably couldn't handle all of this bullshit, or was just finally fed up.
North Korea's religion is best korea or for major butthurt, religion of Kim Kong being not care and being okay during surgery, south korea's religion is starcraft 2

What.
It's a joke, or a unfunny post.
I don't see one sensible reason for NK to go to war ATM, To me it looks like it will be a 100% chance of loss. They have no allies, and they're pretty much surrounded from every corner.

They are allies with China. And China currently has the power to cut off resources to the west, This would cause a major impact on our economy and support. They also have about 2.5 million troops.
They currently have more troops than Canada, USA and England combined. If this ever escelates to war, you can bet your ass there will be a conscription.

Althrough they are allies, I doubt that China will join NK. Everyone in the world would just embargo China and their economy will fall apart quicker than a tower made out of cards, and that's exactly what everyone in China don't want to happen. They'll probably play the neutral card for the sake of economical stability.

China is not retarded enough to fight on North Korea's side.

I agree fully, I don't think china will make anything of it. I was just referring to the worst outcome of this.

Worst outcome leads to the fall of China, and to the rise of the Western countries. You are aware because of this attack, the US Finance 10-Dollar Treasury rose, correct?
