I'm glad I live in a country where the fire service is paid for by taxes, so I know that I'm always covered. And couldn't the fire department just charge a fee for putting out uninsured properties? You still get the money, the guy would still have his house, problem solved (although the problem shouldn't exist).

Was under the impression that most Fire Departments were run by the State
Was under the impression that most Fire Departments were run by the State
No, most fire response services are municipal, and in this case, operate inter-municipality. In which lies the problem, in order to pay for the additional resources used when traveling to another municipality, fees are usually enacted.
post above has it ^ it's not privated, it's some jurisdiction bullshit. basically the dude lived in a rural area and the firefighters covered some other city that paid taxes which would help pay the firefighters, normal shit. these rural dudes had a chance to pay a $75 fee so that these firefighters would protect them since they didn't pay taxes to them. either way its immoral and is bureaucratically messed up
this is insane, these idiots make me feel bad to be a firefighter. Seriously, they need to at the very least be investigated if not fired outright and made to pay for damages

anarcho-capitalist libertarian: HERP DERP PRIVATIZE EVERYTHING MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER but seriously that's just fucked up.
I was unaware firefighters went into the job for the money. When did this happen?
Nobody does it for the money. They do it for the hours, and the fun of messing around with Mexicans who stab each other and obese black women who got jammed in their own doorframe. At least, that's how Chicago is.
Next, Priority emergency dispatch. No subscription: 4 - 5 hour wait. Basic $10/m : 2 - 3 hour wait. Super $50/m : 10 - 60 minute wait.

Super Platinum $1000/m: Have a firetruck stationed at your house.
I still hate those asshole firemen and not one person can change my mind
I still hate those asshole firemen and not one person can change my mind
"firemen" what they did was shitty but they're still people people who fight fires despite the evidence of their inactivity in that instance
Is it just me or is money getting too much in the way in our lives?
Yeah I live in Knox county, TN. My local fire department just switched from donations to fees. Fees are based on your square footage. If you don't pay the fees, then you will be forced to pay approx 2,000 USD per hour (most serious house fires will take 3-6). Granted they still put the fire out, but you will have to sell your damn house to pay for it. What is funny is that I would have totally donated to the fire department, but they make their donation requests look identical to bills. Had they just sent out a letter and made it clear that they wanted donations, I would have donated. But nope! Dickbags.
Oh damn, I live in Knoxville as well. Did not know any of this. Gave me a sinking feeling. :gonk:
Super Platinum $1000/m: Have a firetruck stationed at your house.
Master-$25,000/m drench your house 24/7
Oh damn, I live in Knoxville as well. Did not know any of this. Gave me a sinking feeling. :gonk:
If you live in Knoxville proper, then you should be okay. I think taxes still covers fire fighters inside the city limits. But I'm way on the north end of the county a ways beyond the city limits and pull from the Karns volunteer department. Also note that if you rent, rather than own, you probably don't need to worry about it. That is a fee that the building owner is likely going to need to cover. I own my house, so I have to specifically keep an eye out for the letters.
Those firefighters are dicks. Letting his house burn is bad enough, but the fact that they refused to lift a finger even when he offered to pay is just sickening.
This would make a great movie, they guys family all die in the fire, the firefighters are all like Colombian, and then the guy has to go to Columbia and kill all the firefighters. :downs:
Isn't Capitalism great!?
Only in USA. This is how we roll in Finland: http://www.riemurasia.net/jylppy/hylatyt/media.php?id=74928&vote=1
And people whine about Socialism...
Wait what? Law's should be broken for stuff like this. They ought'a stop caring about money and care about each other. Selfish fucks.
I wish for one of a few things: 1. Someone sets fire to the fire department 2. A fire kills someone that they could have put out (negligent homicide? If not, then the firefighters will be screwed out of anything more from anyone) 3. Nobody pays fees. Fuck. I mean, I thought sadistic bastards were supposed to set fires, not put them out.
:fireman:
Wait what? Law's should be broken for stuff like this. They ought'a stop caring about money and care about each other. Selfish fucks.
Supreme Court already ruled nobody, including police officers and firefighters, are required or obligated to help or protect you from anything Also there's always something called 'insurance'
why the fuck are taxes not paying for this?
"veni, vidi." They came. They watched
That doesn't mean They came they watched. Should be "venerunt, specaverunt", but that is just nitpicking usage of a dead language. [editline]05:18PM[/editline] That is really messed up. If he offered to pay the fee right there in cash then why the hell not.
What a bunch of shitty firefighters.
