Pretty sure that's someone who's able to make babbies with someone of the opposite sex. Now, I'm all pro transgender people, but I think someone able to produce fertile offspring with the opposite sex is the definition of being 'fully functioning' when it comes to gender.
So what about people who are infertile? Are we suddenly judging how masculine/feminine someone is based on their ability to have kids and the number of kids they have?
I don't think it's a good way to judge the "validity" of a person's gender. (actually that's not a thing you should do at all.) Especially when nowadays, having a baby is kinda considered the "worst" result of having sex. remember: sex =/= gender
Well, I'm not saying not being fully-functioning isn't valid. I'm just saying that's what fully functioning is. Sterile people are valid, too, and they can't make babbies. And yeah, sorry, I meant sex. Kinda mix 'em up, not native English speaker. [editline]16th December 2012[/editline] I'm not judging wether or not they are valid, just the semantics of being a 'fully functioning' male or female are pretty darn fuckin' clear. To clear shit up, I'm totally pro equal rights for everyone ever. Like any other decent human being is. However, he said fully functioning, and he's probably right. You won't be fully functioning. I'm not saying that's a problem in any way, it's just the way things are.
What is a fully functioning male/female person?
Someone who has basic biological reproductive capability, fully functioning or not. Now if you were able to (and if I know what I'm talking about, then modern science won't permit it) completely replace the biological reproductive system with a donor's genitalia, then that's a different story. But when you're nutsack is from your abdomen, and your balls are made of sillicon, then clearly you're making something that appears to have the male sexual organs, but simply put, you couldn't jizz on a woman's face if you tried. Unless of course you had a prostate transplanted or something.

http://sciblogs.co.nz/code-for-life/2010/01/19/deleting-a-gene-can-turn-an-ovary-into-a-testis-in-adult-mammals/ http://hplusmagazine.com/2010/11/28/total-gender-change-within-decade/ Really we're not too far off it if we really tried.

Hope this gets looked into more.
it kind of is though
it kind of isn't awareness of gsm issues is at an all-time high. gsm rights advocacy is just as much of a fad as the civil rights and women's suffrage movements

A post-menopausal women is no longer a woman?
I was asked what fully functioning is. I answered what fully functioning is. I was not making an argument against transgenderism or sex change operations or anything like that, but when 'fully functioning' in the sense of sex is brought up, the answer is someone who can make fertile babbies. This is also why, say, a mule isn't a fully functional animal, because they generally can't make babby-mules with other mules. [sp]Sorry to literally everyone for compareing people to mules. That's offensive, I get it, but it's the easiest relatable example I can think of.[/sp]
I'm still a bit confused why transgender isn't a separate issue from LGB though. I mean... since the other 3 are sexualities, but trangender is a gender issue. You can be transgender, and still be straight, gay, or bisexual. It's not a sexuality. While I don't wish to imply that they shouldn't be tolerated as well, I'm merely confused why they're not separated from the former sexualities, technical reasons. Don't be a massive asshole and rate me dumb Dori, if you disagree, then rate disagree and enlighten me.
It's not a sexuality.
It's pretty myopic to say that the issue isn't related to sexuality.

I just see it as a separate issue (not to imply that it's less important), than the other ones... since it's not something that dictates your sexuality, but how you view yourself. I guess it's complicated... but I'm just the kind of person that reasons after technical aspects rather than emotion. [editline]16th December 2012[/editline] It was an honest question, and people rating someone dumb for wanting to learn are people I do not respect

But I'm hardly an expert so you can take that with a pinch of salt.
What is a fully functioning male/female person?
You're right, we also shouldn't judge people based on how their genitalia look/function. Perhaps if we didn't, those born with ambiguous genitalia wouldn't be at risk of mutilation.
The topic of this thread is that On that topic, why is it that EVERY gay couple on TV is flamboyantly gay? I know a few gays/lesbians, they don't act any different.
What if every character on TV who has never had a relationship with someone of the opposite sex (attributed by the rest of the cast as him/her being ugly/socially awkward/weird/some other reason) is actually gay/lesbian?
wait Nick Grimshaw is gay?
do you live in the south or something cause that sounds like the kind of horseshit that regularly falls out of the slack jawed agape mouths of the morons in my town
for some reason i seem to recall u posting somewhere sometime that you in georgia i live in newnan, ga i call it bumfuckistan
To be fair, Transgenderism isn't any where near the same kind of issue as the LGB issue, I think T and Q should start their own group so they stop getting over shadowed by the LGB section.
To be fair, Transgenderism isn't any where near the same kind of issue as the LGB issue, I think T and Q should start their own group so they stop getting over shadowed by the LGB section.
Not to mention some of the people who hates T and Q the most often are LGB, where the latter apparently feels they're being held back by the former. Which is incredibly ironic from a spectators POV.
I don't see why they should be grouped, sexuality and transgenderism are completely different issues.
What the fuck is Q
What the fuck is Q
Queer.
What the fuck is Q
Some say it's "questioning", others say it's "queer" whatever that means
Can S get in on this
for some reason i seem to recall u posting somewhere sometime that you in georgia i live in newnan, ga i call it bumfuckistan
I just call it butt fucking georgia. The amount of ignorant people here is astounding. Especially about transgender ignorance. They mostly act like its a fetish not GID. Yeah my suicidal transgender friend is soooooo into that fetish that she wants to kill herself if she cant. Fucking idiots.
Some say it's "questioning", others say it's "queer" whatever that means
So is queer just someone who's not totally sure whether they're gay or bi yet?
Some say it's "questioning", others say it's "queer" whatever that means
I thought it was about being genderqueer? "Questioning" isn't an orientation so that makes no sense.
Not to mention some of the people who hates T and Q the most often are LGB, where the latter apparently feels they're being held back by the former. Which is incredibly ironic from a spectators POV.
Not really from a certain standpoint. It's easier to foster acceptance purely on sexuality than it is on differences of body views. Plus there's the whole locker debate in a sense. A lot of people are more comfotable being in the same lockers with someone who's gay, than they are with a transgender that's only half way there. Like the transgender with penis in female lockers debate from earlier. It makes a lot of sense for the LGB crowd to want it to be a seperate issue.

It doesn't surprise me that T is ignored. That's all too common. What really annoys me is when LGB people ignore and hate T. Also now that there's even additions like Q and S, I think it's time we should dumb the LGBTQSBBQ or whatever it is and move to a smaller one. Like GSM. Gender and Sexuality Minorities.
