I dont even like understand why. The whole point of the movement is for people to accept other people for being something they cant choose. Its painful seeing it happen :/.

I'd say it's probably just ignorance. Sexuality and Gender Identity are on different ends of the spectrum. Some gay or bi people don't understand transgender people. I've even seen a few t-hating gay people here on FP.

I have seen gay people who mock trans people and dont really accept them, meanwhile complains when their parents and friends dont accept them. Its really awful.

its really bad when cis gay men are transphobic too. its just like wtf
Can S get in on this
epic joke dude
.
Oh for gods sake Dori, what now could I possibly have said to upset you this time, I mean I was even being supportive this time and I still god dumb slapped by you.
Is there no pleasing you?
Mostly because they are afraid of being burned by the stake for coming out.
I dunno, I'm surprised considering I've attended both SCAD Atlanta and Savannah. I've seen a crossdresser fashion major but that's about as non societal "norm" I've seen. With it being an artschool everybody is wayyy different in some way or another and there's so many people from around the world. It's the most awesome demographic I've experienced irl honestly its like pokemon.

Nope, only if you're a exact carbon copy of 'em
I'm all for the fact that people have different feelings and attractions, that's just a part of nature - but when it gets to actually modifying somebodies body I think it's crossed the line a bit
who cares what you think about modifying your own body
transgender people make their own decisions about their own bodies, idk where you get the nerve to start making a judgement about it

Well it's no different to a hispanic person not liking blacks or whatever, don't know why it's so shocking. Just because LBGT people are all grouped together as a single minority doesn't mean they're like a hivemind who all share the same views and stuff
Dori will you stop being such a spineless git for once and just actually reply to people instead of boxing them
what about the real oppressed minority, WCC. or white conservative christian. typical of bbc to go for people who already have more rights than i do...

It just seems like if anyone should know how it feels to be isolated, forgotten about by society, and generally fucked over it would be people who belong to the same minority that we do.

But they don't really, their issues are sexuality based and at the moment they're quite accepted. Trangendered people's problems are of course gender based, which is a different issue altogether, and really needs to be dealt with in a different way. They've really become the silent T on the end of LGBT being lumped in with the LGB crowd
Oh for gods sake Dori, do you have an auto dumb rater or something.

I think it might just be that your posting on these subjects is exceptionally bad.

The issues really aren't far apart from each other at all.
The hatred towards transgender people is entirely based in ignorance. Some hate them for religious reasons while others hate them because they perceive the issue as a choice the transgender person makes the same way many homophobes perceive homosexuality as a choice, and view this "choice" as disgusting.

I really don't understand why people think the T in LGBT doesn't belong or something.

Yeah but they're clearly not the only issues if even people in the LGB community have been found to hate them
[editline]16th December 2012[/editline]
And it's not about them "not belonging" rather than them needing extra attention.

The problems can go a lot deeper. A lot of people find gender dysphoria to be a non issue and that transgender people are just being big babies about it. Others find the very concept of the sex change process to be abhorrent.
It's a derogatory term for homosexuals, it used to mean something questionable (still does, but the homophobes stole it)
tbh I don't see what was dumb about this, people really do use it as slang, against its original dictionary definition, in the uk at least
Maybe it's the way I worded it that made these few losers butthurt?
They're trying to reclaim the term and make it better.

We really need that crying smilie from SA...
You made a post in which every single clause was incorrect. These errors would have been identified via spending 10 minutes with google. That does make you deserving of some contempt, and I'm going to highlight the fuck out of it. Instead of getting pissy, try exerting some effort.
But they don't really,
This is wrong because it's the sum of everything else in this post being wrong.
their issues are sexuality based
The link between gender and sexuality is variable by culture but undeniable. Heteronormativity would not be a concept if that weren't the case, and it's a widely discussed topic. Implies causality and/or an incorrect timeframe, both of which are false. [Could have been answered by the above.]

7 long wiki articles is not 10 minutes of google.
When I say "Please explain why" I'm not saying "I'm right, you can't explain why" I'm saying "Explain why" rather than just telling me I'm wrong and not expanding on any reasons for that.
You can't honestly rattle on about how everyone is ignorant about transgenderism and then have a massive hissy fit whenever someone tries to discuss it. I mean I could understand if I was attacking transgender people and saying that it's bad, but my posts were in support of them so there was really no need to be a massive obnoxious dick about it.
perpetrating misconceptions about transpeople and GSMs in general isn't supportive, it's caustic

People rated you dumb because queer is not a derogatory term anymore. I don't even think it was tbh. People just said it like it was a bad thing.
T will come soon, it's just too progressive right now
I might be going off topic with this, but one aspect of the whole trangenderism issue still confuses me. Many LGBT rights campaigners claim that gender is entirely a social construct in an attempt to break down gender norms, but the problem is that if this were the case gender dysphoria wouldn't really exist. For people to feel so much internal conflict about it and develop mental illness as a result, there would have to be a deep-rooted psychological aspect to gender rather than it just being a matter of 'taste' or whatever. And it being entirely a social construct doesn't explain many other things either. For a start there aren't an abundance of other legit dysphorias (that aren't a result of mental disorders). Secondly, why would a male want to change their sex to female in a place where women get it much worse for example? And thirdly many transgender people say that they feel trapped or born into the wrong body, implying there must be a deep-rooted psychological aspect again. There's other examples I can think of but this is probably enough just to get my point across
You're taking a bunch of terms that transpeople use to describe the situation too far and thinking about them too hard. That's not what they mean by gender is a social construct either.

You're thinking of gender roles.
You're thinking of gender roles.
Maybe, but I have heard people go on about gender roles and gender being one and the same, and who deny there's anything to it that isn't socially fabricated
Maybe, but I have heard people go on about gender roles and gender being one and the same, and who deny there's anything to it that isn't socially fabricated
Gender role is basically what someone considers proper behavior for a specific gender. Like how some people consider cooking and cleaning to be womanly things while a man works and brings home a paycheck, while others have a more equal view for gender roles.
It can be heavily influenced by culture and upbringing.
A gender identity would be whether someone considers themselves to be a man or a woman.
