Gee I thought Facepunch was generally for rehabilitation and not punishment, how times have changed.
Not saying that he should be let free; it's a disgusting crime. But I think even just the damage to his reputation is almost enough punishment.
I think it's the combination of this guy being an heir which makes him basically worthless, plus the disgusting nature of his crime, plus the super light punishment plus the reason given for such a light punishment.
This case really is all of america's problems rolled into one giant disgusting ball
Gee I thought Facepunch was generally for rehabilitation and not punishment, how times have changed.
Thats a pretty broad generalization. I've always thought of Facepunch as divided on the issue.
This isn't even rehabilitation. This is just some guy learning he can get away with raping a 3 year old girl because he has a lot of money.
He didn't really get away with it. He has to attend a sex offenders treatment program, can't ever be in contact with someone 16 years or younger, and of course his destroyed reputation as being a part of apparently what must be a well-known family.

Oh poor guy, you're right this punishment was totally justice, he just raped a child and they ruined his REPUTATION. Jesus christ how brutal is our justice system to the rich?

If it's divided, then I'm surprised that no one else has yet appeared in the thread who doesn't advocate torture / lynching / firing squad.

That as punishment alone would not be sufficient, I'm not sure if I made that clear enough. But just think about it, this case is going to follow him for his entire life, and I doubt he'll be rich any longer if no one wants to do business with him.
Also, I want to point out that I never said he shouldn't go to prison.

Only two or three posters have advocated for such a thing here. Don't exaggerate.

He's already unemployed. He'll be rich from an inheritance.
I'm curious to know what makes people sexually attracted to girls young as this
meanwhile, if any of us did something similar (there are some sick fucks here but i doubt there are true pedophiles) we'd get 20+ years and billion dollar bail. they wouldn't give a fuck whether we faired well in prison or not.

and just think, one day this guy is going to own one of the most important companies in the world. fucking. sickening.

He won't now.

I'd imagine it's more to do with having total control of the victim than the arousal but I might be wrong because I'm not a paedophile.
I wonder what the judge's reaction would be if someone used this as a precedent in his court.
I wonder what the judge's reaction would be if someone used this as a precedent in his court.
I was thinking the same thing, statistically NO ONE "fares well" in prison, and for the other guy who said his reputation loss is part of his punishment, if a normal person did this they would never see the light of day, that's a really poor excuse for this clearly abusive decision on the judge's part. Maybe someone should start a supreme court case for the immediate release and commuting of sentences to probation for every single person in prison and use this as a precedent, maybe that will get the point across.
I mean there are people doing 5, 10, hell even 20 year sentences for literally nothing but possessing or selling weed, but this guy rapes a child and is rich and gets off with a slap on the wrist.
edit: I mean any punishment this guy is getting would be the same thing as any normal person, except the normal person would do 10-20 years behind bars before he could even DREAM of going to sex offender classes.
I wonder what the judge's reaction would be if someone used this as a precedent in his court.
That's a good point actually, you'd imagine that there would already be a relevant precedent made somewhere higher up in the judicial hierarchy.
I wonder if his children "fared well" while he raped them when they were too young to even know let alone protect themselves to what was happening. Wonder if they will ever fare well knowing their own father molested them. This case is one of the most sickening cases I've heard of in a long time.
There is Du Pont blimp outside my house in the air.
Be rich, get away with raping a 3 year old.
No, we don't have a class problem in the USA, not at all.
I don't normally advocate lynch mobs, but I'd be willing to turn a blind eye if this man were strung up.
America has been a plutocracy for so long that we just accept things like this as the way things are.
That and people who bring up class privilege are often ostracized
I usually can't stand when people are calling for someone's death or torture but some people just aren't worth defending.
It makes you wonder how shitty the Defense Attorney feels about it when it's done and over with, especially since often times they don't really get a choice and are APPOINTED to defend people like this.
But those that do it willingly? Just as bad as the Defendant I'd say.
yeah usually i'd shit a thread like this up with a dissenting opinion but let's do what they used to do in the old days: get a fucking lynch mob together and string him up by his organs or some demented shit
Knock him out, find an abandoned building, staple his gonads to the floor, light the building on fire, then wake him up and tell him "You now have a decision to make."
If that doesn't deserve life in prison I have no idea what does.

mass murder?
terrorism?
human trafficking?

Reminds me of that rich affluenza story a while ago when CNN tried to point out that a poor person wouldn't have been treated so leniently.
"But not all black people are poor Anderson.."
You rich are pretty hard to defend sometimes.
I'm curious to know what makes people sexually attracted to girls young as this
Like pretty much everything in life it's not something you can properly explain beyond "the person experiences * when looking at * ".
Nobody willingly takes a choice to be attracted to something everyone hates them for. That alone explains why they also can't explain why they are attracted to it.
Explanations can only be made for what they are attracted to. The best example to make is that we can go into deep details on what we find funny, but not why.

Why is no system in place to stop this shit?, If a bunch of forum nerds like us can instantly and almost unanimously spot how glaringly wrong this is, why cant people who are in a position to fix it do the same?

Oh, there's supposed to.
But, you know, money.

Whoa slow down, lets not start a ~class war~

pedophilia is an incurable disease. People who act on it don't deserve leniency, ever.

They can be rehabilitated and reintroduced into society, it was actually found that if you let the victim speak to the rapist, it actually helps the victim recover faster.
People aren't born evil.

Well considering that alot of us 'forum nerds' are calling for capital punishment, I'm glad that we aren't the ones delivering the sentencing.
