Advertising in a prime location.
I bet if they sell adverts on them they will recoup their costs quickly.
Can't help but think of telescreens though.
Was instantly reminded of Crysis2, they have bins with lcd badges there.
Ah, good, incase my laptop, phone and newspaper are broken I can still get my stock updates from the garbage bin.
Imagine walking past.
"You, citizen. Pick up that can.
...
Now put it in the trash can."
was, going to say this would be a waste of time and money
but they can transmit updates during emergencies
that sounds pretty usefull, all be it weird... seeing a lods of people around some bins during an emergency
It's obviously for stock brokers to have their work days outside.
We all know people are going to steal them
Idk that looks like it weighs a ton. Trying to steal that would bring suspicion around them which would lead to the cops being called.

Maybe the bins call the cops themselves!
LCD screens are only half the story.

And I have a feeling vandals will have a hard time destroying/stealing these.
"Oi! Pick up that bloody rubbish and drop it in me, you gob!"
"Excuse me sir, but would you kindly take a moment of your life and put this litter you dropped in me?"
These would be great in the event of an attack on london/any general emergency. Seems like a good idea to me.

If these prove a hit then I want more of them. It annoys me that airports and trainstations etc aren't able to have bins due to "terror threats".
But what is the bloody point?
"Trash! Someone put it in me!"
Killing Floor voices in it and its worth all the dosh.
Would be cool if they were also wi-fi hotspots.
It would be cool if they doubled as bomb shelters. They're bomb-proof after all.
"Excuse me sir, but would you kindly take a moment of your life and put this litter you dropped in me?"
If they make these speak in Stephen Fry's voice, they will be an instant hit.
Hahah, I can't believe they actually think any of the lines will have "Good Service" during the Olympics.
Oh yes because the content of the LCD screen can never change to say "Poor service"..........
Would be cool if they were also wi-fi hotspots.

'The Renew bins are equipped with Wi-Fi, so the next phase is to offer greater connectivity via the units.'
Are you blind or did you not read it?
Maybe I'm wrong but when they say they are equipped with WiFi, you can be pretty sure they won't be transmitting data to the unit via WiFi due to its short range...So, they must be hotspots
Speaking of strange things with screens, I recently seen a Bulmers Cider bar tap with a lcd screen showing an ad for Bulmers on it. Looks really futuristic.
And then someone vandalizes them
"Spray paint the screens black"
So awesome, yet so dumb.
It's not worth it if it costs £30,000.
That's just way too expensive for something like that.
You could be the same thing yourself for like £1,500
LMAO worst idea ever
"I want you inside of me."
-trash can
30,000 pounds is just too expensive.
Neat.
I think they could be somewhere more fitting but trash cans are really only the things common enough otherwise.
Much better use then the £500,000 used to buy every school a bible.
Instead of 30k pounds, why not take an iPod's hardware and software and just adapt it for the massive-ass screen and hide all the fun stuff.
Cheaper, even if the most price comes from bomb-proofing.

Because that's an Apple product, it won't be cheaper at all.
Anyone else seem to notice these things have those transparent LCD screens like the ones Samsung showed off on a recent electronic trade show?
Don't worry, they'll only be around for the Olympics and then when all the tourists are gone they'll vanish
Vanish, Into the shady folks homes
It's all good until someone tries to throw away a half-eaten Sloppy Joe and it spills all over the screen.
Oops.
