777s are very heavy and their engines produce a lot of thrust - even when idle. Landing on anything other than tarmac would most definitely result in disaster.

can someone confirm these are boats I'm looking at, left one is 100 ft long and right is ~80ft according to the scale. too big for 'scattered debris' and appear to have trails behind (north of) them but the weird shape of the left one is kinda confusing

btw the dark areas on the water are shadows by clouds. If you're unsure try searching the surrounding tiles for clouds. If you found none you might wanna consider posting it here.

yeah, it all over the place and I don't really expect there to be enough fuel in a plane to create such large patterns. I also found a similair one a bit further south, so you're most likely right.
Don't know how to jump to maps but that looks just like sediment being stirred around. Possibly from an oil rig.
