Interested to know why people rated dumb. As far as I know, having flown for a number of years, a winglet falling off an airplane would have no dramatic affect on performance. The poster is entirely correct in his statement that loosing a winglet would result in a dramatic loss of control.

Don't know how it is over there, but if you turn your phone off here you get no ringing at all, just an instant mailbox connection. The article is a little vague, but by 'the call got connected' I take it to mean the phone actually rang, which in my experience tends to mean the destination phone is still on and active.
