thats means every south korean sailor is worth 9 million dollars.

way to go putting a price on human life

So they should just let North Korea attack them and do nothing about it? And I would argue a human life is worth vastly more than 9 million dollars.
40 men =//= 200million in trades?
thats means every south korean sailor is worth 5 million dollars.

Governments don't make open policies outlining the diplomatic price of their soldiers.
I'd find it outrageous if my nation's soldiers were killed, for no reason, and we continued open trade regardless.
Now there will be a fucking war
Yes, it is bad, but ocmpletely shutting down trade will be starving hundreds of thousands of people in north korea, a smarter idea would be to tax trade with them.

I wasn't aware that you could quantify life with a value. Thank you for enlightening me.
Wait who won the last Korean war?

They are worth as much as the SK people value them, not what you compare them to.
US started taking part in WW1 after 1200 people were killed on a boat.
Wait who won the last Korean war?
Noone, it ended in a cease fire in 53 I think.
Wait who won the last Korean war?
It was a tie, there was a peace treaty.
Who do you reckon would win this time?
Now there will be a fucking war
They're tachnically still at war, they just have a cease fire.
Wait who won the last Korean war?
No one, it's not finished yet.
I'm still skeptical about all this eventually turning into a war. The conflict seems to be escalating, but in the end it's like this:
Everyone: OH FUCK YES IT'S ON NOW CHAPS, SHIT JUST GOT REAL, TIME TO NUKE THEM FOCKING KOREANS FROM ORBIT
TV: BREAKING! South Korea and North Korea reach peaceful solutions thanks to Chinese intervention.
Everyone: ...
Who do you reckon would win this time?
If it was just SK vs NK, definately NK. North Korea is much more militarized than South Korea. However, in reality it would all depend what nation got behind who. If the US/UK/any other decently powerful nation got behind South Korea it would likely be SK that won.
SK will most likely have the UK, the US and most of Europe on it's side, aswell as Japan.
Who do you reckon would win this time?
North Korea's people are starving and being worked to the bone. They are kept ignorant of how the wider world is and completely demotivated. They have many enemies and few friends.
South Korea has a well educated population, a strong military and many allies in the west along with those in Asia. South Korea isn't completely unprepared for a NK attack.
I can see South Korea winning, seeing as China would be reluctant to go to war with America or help NK. Seeing as China and America's economies rely on each other.
If North Korea just attacked and South Korea wasn't prepared they would win, until South Koreas allies come.
Sad situation. I suppose China will just increase trade to make up for it. I didn't know they traded in the first place.
China doesn't give a crap about North Korea or its people. The only reason they'd trade with them is to make money. The Cold War alliances are pretty much void now.
Ugh, we should have finished this in the first korean war and made the nation of korea, not leaving a country cut in half to cause this.
I doubt china would risk irritating the US, a ton of their income comes straight from the plastic crap they sell. If we decided to suddenly not buy chinese products, china's economy would be crippled for a while.
Of course if they suddenly demanded that the US pay off their 11 trillion dollar debt, all of the US would probably be crippled for years.
Would there be any reason for Russia to back North Korea if a conflict actually does happen?

I'm still calling it KW2 if shit goes down. :colbert:

Only about 25-35% of that debt is owned by China, and no, they can't demand anything from the United States. That's not how debt works.
Chinese firms give loans the United States. Because of how stable The United States financial system and government are viewed around the world (despite the recent mortgage crisis), most nations will indefinitely continue offering loans. Picture it like this.
Debt is a commodity, and it's the biggest commodity the United States exports. As the United States has never 'defaulted' on a loan, and has the largest economy in the world, it's an investors wet dream. Paying money to the United States guarantees a greater return in the long run, in the eyes of the investor.
If war broke out it could be a possible third world war. If NK and SK got into war, the US or China would intervene and help their ally, however, the possibility of both sides helping their ally could result in conflicts between Chinese and American soldiers, which could escalate quickly.

No, they're not communist anymore.

Chinese and Soviet soldiers served against the United States in Vietnam (around 3000 Soviet personnel and 300,000 Chinese) but this did not lead to conflict escalation. Keep in mind this was at the height of the Cold War, and during the time in which China and the USSR might have actually benefited from a war.
Would there be any reason for Russia to back North Korea if a conflict actually does happen?
Not really. Ideally they would enter the conflict on the SK/US side.
Well, ideally there wouldn't be a conflict. But I'd really like to see a conflict with Russia and the United States working closely together. We are actually pretty similar in a lot of ways. With some work put into relations between the two nations, we could emerge as an extremely powerful alliance.
Just heard from news that US supports SK ( with military aid )
Russia should help NK just to make it interesting. Cold War II anyone?
/sarcasm.

Except China doesn't give a fuck about NK any more. They'd prefer to stay out of it selling cheap crap to America/Europe and make trillions than go to war for a guy they barely recognise anymore. NK is pretty much on it's own. The world has moved on since the Cold War, NK has not.
