Will you plead guilty? I WAS TROLLING OLOLOLOL
I wouldn't feel any respect for that man even if he had earned those medals. In fact, I think I'd feel even less respect for the patriotic swine.
Dude looks like a pedophile. Notice the lack of chin and smug bastard smile.
That makes him more british than anything.
Wow, what a douche nozzle
Thousands of men have died serving their countries. It's just a little disrespectful to pretend that you have served your country and have been honoured for your bravery when so many don't come home, don't you think?
But it's not against the law to be disrespectful. I can call Obama a shit eating ass hat while burning an American flag, and I'm not breaking any law. It's called freedom of speech. I should have the freedom to buy somebody's medals if they're selling them and then wear them because they're now my property. It's just cloth and hunks of metal. Who cares?

It's the same as getting in a police uniform and arresting people. Unless you're a stripper.
That's just fucked up, people risk their lives for that shit and this asshole just buys it off the internet. Fuck that.
Idiot tries to scam people, gets what he deserves. Does seem quite a harsh punishment though. Hm, then again, it is really disrespectful to the families of people who are real heroes. Anyway, hopefully he won't do it again and it'll discourage other people from doing it.
I guess he shouldn't meddle in things too big for him. :smug:
Wow, Its just a piece of metal and plastic. Get over it.

He slipped up big time.
But it's not against the law to be disrespectful.
Fraud is against the law.
It's just cloth and hunks of metal. Who cares?
...You're a fool. It's what they represent that matters. And people do care.
That's really bad. The people who have fought for those medals earned them. It's sickening to know this guy bought them online and made up a fake story, when real heroes actually went through the suffering and pain to truly earn the right to wear them.
He deserves it and the punishment is fitting. You don't claim stuff that isn't yours. Especially medals of honor. It's a slap in the face to the men who actually were in the war and earned them.
This
It's the same as getting in a police uniform and arresting people. You can dress like a cop (AFAIK) and it's fine until you start arresting people or driving a police car. If people are offended, that's fine. Like I said before with free speech, you can be as disrespectful as you want with words, but apparently you can't wear somebody else's medals. It doesn't make sense.

But it becomes something else when you use it to get all sorts of attention (WHICH HE DID) or in some cases a LOT of money (but he didn't do that), THAT'S when it's fraud.
It's only fraud if he uses his disguise to try to sneak into places he shouldn't be.
Wrong.
And it shouldn't be illegal to be disrespectful. Because when you have someone like him prancing around with his gigantic ego like a filthy myspace attention whore, claiming he got all of these highly decorated stuff when he DIDN'T. That my good sir in this case is not only disrespectful but it's also FRAUD. [release] Burton, a 39-year-old bank employee from Palm Springs, was unmasked after he wore the uniform of a Marine lieutenant colonel to his 20-year high school reunion. A classmate who was a Navy commander became suspicious of his story, got him to pose for a photo and handed it over to the FBI. Burton has agreed to plead guilty to a single count of the unauthorized wearing of a military medal. He faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine for violating the Stolen Valor Act, which prohibits wearing an unearned medal or falsely claiming to have earned one.[/release] MOAR. [release]Burton began attracting attention in February 2008, when he wrote to a veterans' Web site and sent a photo of himself in uniform taken on Coronado Island, near San Diego. The letter discussed his supposed wartime experiences and a moving encounter with ex-Marines on Coronado. He signed the letter, "MGySgt Burton, 1st Division, USMC," indicating his rank as master gunnery sergeant. Some vets who saw his post questioned his terminology and the abbreviation. When asked in an e-mail why his name did not turn up on a list of Navy Cross winners, he replied that Burton was his first name and that he does not provide his full name online. [/release] He got what was coming. No one likes a fraud.
agreed. When I wear my glasses and use my cane and tell people I'm blind, does that make me some kind of criminal?
Actually yes, it does. Using white canes while not being blind IS illegal.
