I don't think I was clever, I just had to clarify because of your "uhh, okay?" which I was not sure if was just you thinking I actually called you a piece of shit instead of just making a sentence out of the 3 songs I liked from the album as a way of saying that I disagree.
Something About us has a very heavy and slow beat, it uses a lot of electronic instruments and sounds, even the vocals are distorted. It's way different from Get Lucky that's just imitating what sells today.
it's imitating what sold in the late 70s/early 80s not what sells today. that's what daft punk do, they repackage old music with a new flair.
Something About Us is basically chicago house music (slow and heavy) with some soul & funk + a filtered voice while Get Lucky is basically Chic redone with Pharrells vocals + a lot of Nile Rodgers influence.
Daft Punk are not some super innovative duo, the song is generic but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's a fun song, it's danceable.

When did I ever claim that Get Lucky was a bad song? First thing I did was claiming that I like it. All I've said is that I find it to be a generic pop song that was made to be popular and generate a lot of cash and is completely not Daft Punk and probably wouldn't even fare that well if their name wasn't slapped on it.
I don't consider pop-songs of that caliber to be music, just commercial consumer products, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them for what they are.

I've seen this posted multiple times in Daft Punk threads, but I still don't get it. It doesn't sound anything like Get Lucky...or is that not the point?

chic is nile rodgers btw
I dislike this song loads primarily because just how much hype this song was riding behind. It was being presented like it was some kind of Jewel when in reality it was a completely forgettable tune that didn't even deserve a second of our time.
But it's so utterly terrible.
It's an Okay song in my opinion. It's got a pretty standard funk groove. Nothing really unique about it. I don't think it's a #1. It's not even in Daft Punk's top 10 IMO. They seem to have traded unique electronic music for Lyrics.
chic is nile rodgers btw
yeh, i know. he's just nile now tho.

They were very clear about their influences. Where's the rest of the funk/soul music on the chart? Why are you acting like Daft Punk are some weird underground artist who just sold out?
A lot of Daft Punk songs are "generic" within the genre they take influence from.. The main issue with the song is the lyrics but Daft Punk have never been that great with their lyrics.

Yeah, it sounds like a washed up generic pop-song, doesn't mean that's a good thing. You don't need to have the same instruments to sound the same, just because chart isn't filled with songs that have some funky bass doesn't mean the songs doesn't share many common traits.
The vocals definitely adds to the similarity, yes.

You have no taste

I think Get Lucky is an alright song but I don't understand why it's being criticised for issues that Daft Punk have always had, also the "funky bass" is deserving of a way better song.

nothing
thats why i like homework a lot more than any of their later stuff
nothing
You have no taste
explain please.
yeah exactly theres no bullshit, like revolution 909 is straight up one of the smoothest and best minimal house tracks ive ever heard
I've never seen it amount to anything.

I've never seen it amount to anything.
im sorry next time we'll be more productive when posting on a forum
you can sell anyone anything if you put enough marketing behind it $$$$$$$

yes sir
It's alright, that's it. Nothing particularly special about it so I don't understand all the hype.
You guys are putting far too much thought into this.
All I'm seeing is two people agree that Homework is Daft Punk's best work. That's barely too much thought.
I think Daft Punk's music is okay, but it's much, much better than the generic pop trash about partying that get shoveled onto the charts every year.
Good for them.
Maybe pop trash for you but pop gold for me. Just because you dont like it, doesnt mean you have call it bad. Its same as comparing 10 mil to 500mil people who obviously like.
I dont really like Daft Punk but i dont go all jerking off how bad it is. I might as well call it trash because you did it for my favorite chart.
Damn son you really took that to heart. Chill mang.

F ME, it's just an opinion please RELAX, DAMN.
It's like people cry themselves to sleep just because someone hates something you love. People are different, that's the way it is.
surprised by people saying "wow great to see something that isn't pop TRASH in the charts!" even though this song is just pop and there's been a tonne of indie stuff in the charts lately. have these people ever actually seen the charts? i mean i don't think anyone was expecting bastille to get to number 1 album and even some more far out stuff like everything everything got to number 5
How are they not already mainstream, literally everyone in the world (LITERALLY) has heard Around the World, One More Time, Harder Better Faster Stronger etc
Hello, lets take trip to a Africa/Amazons/Tibet/Mongolia/Russia/USA.
Why Russia/USA? Because I bet there are atleast two of those nutjobs who have gone to live inside bunker/forest without any communication.
It's good to see that Daft Punk are popular again :) It's quite a shame that they've made a comeback a bit too late though. Most people I see have no idea who they are. Even the newspaper was pissing itself like an excited dog as it had an article about what the duo's names were and their faces. It's all Skrillex and deadmau5 that take all the credit in electro music nowadays. :/
I'm not an enormous fan of Get Lucky, and I've heard it about a thousand times on the radio, but I'll still listen to it over the rest of the shit that radio 1 usually plays
