I do not believe that the "vermin" were written with African Americans in mind, though the constant characterization of the "vermin" as evil was negative, and irked me somewhat while I read the books. As for the moles, they were included as bumbling sidekicks for comic relief for the most part, and his constant descriptions of food are well written and I see no problems with them, except for their frequency. Finally, the whole Nazi thing in the article is completely ridiculous. Thank you for reading this butthurt essay in which I attempt to defend my childhood.

Aw, man. I loved this guy. Read all but two of his books. Favorites were Taggerung and Marlfox.

The books were pretty bad after the first few IMO but they were really important to me when I was a kid. I remember the back had a giant picture of him laughing on it. Wow, can't believe he died...
