badass but if he's smart he won't stay in Syria any longer he's proved his point that the people have a voice and not everyone's afraid of the government but after openly mocking them and saying "fuck you", staying just to drive that point home isn't brave or badass, it's foolish he can have just the same social impact on his people safe in a neighboring country

Now, if you laugh like an intrepid hardass and then quip a whitty remark right to somebody's face, your words carry a bit more weight. Merely being there as you insult somebody adds a whole additional layer of "fuck you and the whore who birthed you," in addition to your insult itself. It's called being a grandmaster badass, and while some can be badasses naturally, few master the ancient and arcane art.
