They have some nice functionality in Yarn Yoshi, and Codename Steam. They also announced compatibility with the new Fire Emblem game, but I have no idea what that compatiblity is. Really, the only reason I want them though is because half the characters I like will never get a figure besides through this. Yeah, we get a bunch of figures for Mario and stuff, but figures for characters like Ike will probably never be made. And if they do, they'll be like $60. I've wanted an Ike, or Falco figure ever since I was a kid.
The only Amiibos i have are DK, Diddy, Link and Samus. Waiting for Ganondorf and Game & Watch.
You're a quid now.
Imagine if this was actually over cheap plastic toys? Honestly I don't even think Nintendo is angry, they've already struck gold by appealing to peoples nostalgia and making them go fanatical over little figurines.
Their cashing their IPs in on the way paved by Activision, ala Disney and Warner Bros/Lego; but the figures function over a wider range of games for both the Wii U and 3DS instead of one game. You also have to note the rarer amiibos are for characters that lack more recent entries in their franchises (Ness, Little Mac and Captain Falcon come to mind), as well as lacking lots of merchandise. Anyone can walk into practically any store in any country carrying the things and walk out with a Mario or Donkey Kong.
Fuckin' hell. Now I'll have to buy one of those amiibo three packs or another special addition if I want the squid amiibo - because fuck you.
And here I am still enjoying Smash and Wind Waker for HD without Amiibos. Fuck all that collectible shit.
And here I am still enjoying Smash and Wind Waker for HD without Amiibos. Fuck all that collectible shit.
You definitely weren't the only one who enjoyed WWHD without Amiibos.
And here I am still enjoying Smash and Wind Waker for HD without Amiibos. Fuck all that collectible shit.
And that's mostly the point. You aren't going around missing entire sections of gameplay changing content if you don't have a figure.
And that's mostly the point. You aren't going around missing entire sections of gameplay changing content if you don't have a figure.
Mario Party 10 changed gameplay majorly and the only way to get the old method back is to buy amiibo.
Mario Party 10 changed gameplay majorly and the only way to get the old method back is to buy amiibo.
I'd feel bad if somebody actually had to own Mario Party 10, let alone be locked out gameplay.
Mario Party 10 changed gameplay majorly and the only way to get the old method back is to buy amiibo.
I will in fact concede the fact that it was wrong of Nintendo to dangle the original gameplay style in front of a paywall.
Nintendo needs to get this sorted out. Disney Infinity, the only really rare figures are Mrs. Incredible and Syndrome, and even then you can get those for just a little over MSRP if you look.
OR they could get their asses out of their heads and produce more of them and make more profit.
I thought the problem was that they were making too much of the ones people DIDN'T want and made too little of the ones people DID want? Yeah, they need to fix that. For example, even over here, there's a lot of stores that ran out of the Lucario, Metaknight, and Megaman amiibos, yet there's an entire full supply of Mario, Luigi, and Toad amiibos.
WTF is so goddamned special about these things? When I first saw them I thought they were a dumb gimmick for 5 year olds but apparently people are insane about these fucking things?
WTF is so goddamned special about these things?
With Nintendo face masks, I assume?
No because then Nintendo would file a claim and get all the fucking money anyway Amiibos are the new Beanie Babies
No because then Nintendo would file a claim and get all the fucking money anyway Amiibos are the new Beanie Babies
Not to shit all over Amiibos or anything but I've made it a bit of a hobby to ask my friends "so what's so good about Amiibo's anyway?" and see if I can get a straight answer. Heck though a series of JUST the right kind of question I was able to lead a mate on a merry verbal goose chase around going from the non answer of "Well you know, it's just something that's interesting." (You respond to that answer with "Why is it interesting and watch as they near a mental BSOD") and eventually wound up with him saying "actually the model quality isn't all that good..." and got him to badmouth amiibos for a little while. I think I should calm down, at the rate I'm going I will be mentally reporgramming people just via casual conversation.
Do you think a Toys-To-Life general would go over well in the Games forum? I'd be interested in debating the merits and flaws of each of the platforms but I'm not sure there's a big enough following here.
The whole Amiibo thing is kinda weird, i can get them at pretty much every store and they are rarely sold out here, yet i hear that the UK is in a Amiibo crises. Aw yush, i could start a Amiibo export company and earn some serious cash :v:
The rareity of Amiibos differs per continent/country. Little Mac is super rare in the Netherlands and sells for up to 100 eur. Who cares why someone buys a thing? It's their money and their hobby. I can't stand people like you.
Why do people need to justify their hobbies to you? Who cares why someone buys a thing? It's their money and their hobby. No I just do it cos I know a few mates who always give a funny answer thats different every time, so far none of them have ever given a straight "I just think they're nice" answer, which I know is the reason they like to buy these things.
