And shielding yourself from triggers wont make it easier for you, you actually need to fight back, part of fighting back is exposing yourself to the triggers.
yeah, make that soldier with heavy PTSD go watch a war documentary. he just needs to man up, thats all you need to get over it [editline]29th September 2016[/editline]
Going to college should be already be a gigantic trigger warning that you will encounter different ideas. That and using the actual meme term is cringey and loaded. Just put a typical "Viewer Discretion" line.
because the meme term is the official term thats supposed to be used just because kids bastardized it doesnt mean it shouldnt be used for its original purpose
change the title before somebody else jumps in talking about the debates cause they didn't read anyway i think the trigger warning is a rather valid concept whose name is marred by The Social Justiceums, but also you cant let that poison your perception of everything there is a legitimacy to it in cases of ptsd/etc. obviously not when people are just being sensitive dorks but you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater you dig like, the terminology has been corrupted and made fun of to an extreme within just the last few years, and rather understandably, but that doesn't, I think, invalidate the underlying concept of "let's try not to accidentally send people with PTSD into a horrific panic and provide them a voluntary opportunity to engage with concepts they find distressing rather than trip them into it" trigger warnings from a psychological standpoint serve as a sort of mental speed sign, not just "HEY DONT DO THIS WHGOOOGOGGP" but more like "you should know and acknowledge this, turn back if you don't feel ready". it offers sort of a point for someone to engage with their feelings by choice edit: basically if you let tumblr poison every good thing in the world (like i did for a while) and become hyperreactive to anything that reminds you of it, i really dont think youre acting much more mature than the people you criticize
Some people need to grow some thicker skin I think. Most of the people I've met who get "triggered" by this kinda stuff were never victims of it. They just wanted an excuse to be outraged. I understand if stuff like this legitimately causes an adverse reaction in people that have actually experienced it, but most of the people that complain are just morons who have never stepped a single foot outside of their safe spaces. These people need to grow up before the world decides to kick their asses.

I fucking hate it they call it Trigger Warning saying this content may have sensitive materials
Some people are inherently uncomfortable with some topics, hence the literal trigger warning. Not really that big of a deal.
Say that the word trigger is a trigger for you because of gun violence or something. Checkmate
Or just say trigger sounds similar to a certain forbidden slur. There, trigger warnings officially decommissioned.
Some people are inherently uncomfortable with some topics, hence the literal trigger warning. Not really that big of a deal.
from the way things have gone in this thread it seems like a lot of people here need trigger warnings for trigger warnings
the people who are so deeply offended by "trigger warnings" have about as thin a skin as the people they criticize for the misuse of it like, if you're so fuckin polarized by it that you decry its legitimate usage and its psychological background because "BAWWW TUMBLRINA THINSKINS RUIN EVERYTHING" then you're a chump allowing moody teenagers to color your perception of other peoples mental wellness and emotional well-being and i gently proffer to you that you get over yourself edit: it's also rather easy to portray ptsd as a thing to just "power through" or "see a psychiatrist for" when often those are not the be-all-end-all and that it's arguably impossible to completely erase a condition the intentions of these things are so that people can, as i said earlier, voluntarily engage with the matters that distress them rather than being forced into them unprepared and possibly having severe distress as a result. yes, it sucks that some people corrupt that or overestimate their own distress (which i would argue such self-centeredness is its own issue) but that doesn't mean that it never had/has a purpose
a trigger warning used to mean letting my grandpa know that we will be using fireworks, because his mental well being actually was at stake. it's depressing what has happened to a word that is supposed to be serious.
a trigger warning used to mean letting my grandpa know that we will be using fireworks, because his mental well being actually was at stake. it's depressing what has happened to a word that is supposed to be serious.
And that's what it still means. Anyone who insists differently should probably be cut out of your life for your own mental health's sake.
TBH I got the concept of trigger warnings to a degree (war vets are genuinely startled by explosions for instance) but it gets really stupid when you have people biting heads off for stuff like this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/3MdC2vA.jpg[/t]

(it is pretty stupid if it's serious though. like damn0

People who complain about trigger warnings are just as bad as the people who use them for inane shit.
I wonder if I can self diagnose like some people and get a trigger warning for trigger warnings to have them banned.
dont worry i can diagnose you right here as a twat
How are people so outraged/offended by this, which is the proper medical use of a trigger warning, which in this case is a trigger warning for people with PTSD from being raped/sexually assaulted.
