Why become an EMT if you don't want to help people? I have trouble understanding people sometimes.
Hopefully that death haunts her concious if she has one and perhaps inspires her to never let that happen again.
Read the thread, she was an EMT, yes, but even firefighters in New York count as EMT due to the lowest certification needed to be classed as an EMT is certified first responder.
Certified first responder is barely above first aid certification, the best they could have done to help is lift their chin up.
Top notch journalism there, chaps; all the hallmarks of the great sensationalist. Negative adjectives, leading headline, appeals to emotion.

First Reaponder and EMT are two separate jobs bro. EMT's actually receive a certification which is pretty damn hard to obtain, First Responders on the other hand generally don't have this certification.
Everyone who rated OP dumb should take a look at the article Gunfox posted. Of all the people in the restaurant, which included the baby's father, the "EMT", who every claims is at fault, was the only person who did anything about the situation, which was to call an ambulance. The pregant woman refused to go the hospital earlier because her manager told her she was needed on the job. If anyone is at fault for what happened, you certainly cannot pin it all on the "EMT".
And I put EMT in quotes because that's what all the articles refer to her as but it's unclear what the media mean by that, considering the different levels of certifcation one can have.
I did wait for the five minutes, it's just I'm surprised some people are really anal about 5 minute breaks. Yeah I'm sure he didn't have to deal with entitled customers all day.
If someone wants to take their break, then you let them take their fucking break.
I guess the author of this article was promised a cut of the settlement?
I hear stuff like this all the time, although not to this extreme.
But I've heard of female paramedics 'checking' the guys crotch area.
Depending on what they feel, they choose how much effort they want to put in, in trying to save their life.
Get the mob!

The thing about giving up any of your time(breaks/lunch/etc) while at work is EVERYONE just wants 'five minutes'. So maybe you think it's totally reasonable for him to give up five minutes of his time for you, but you need to remember you're not the only one asking. If five customers that day just want a quick five minutes of his time, he has to cough up a half hour of HIS time. That's his break, his lunch, he's still going to have to do his work, so it's not like he can get that time back from work.
There's no way in hell I'd sacrifice even ten seconds of MY time for a customer. The only exceptions would be if your work was such that you could take your full break when you wanted, so that you could help the customer and still get your full break. Also, some places insist employees take breaks and lunch on time because it's the law. These places cannot have employees working overtime(ie no breaks) without paying them for it, for example. And they aren't about to pay you for it, so you HAVE to take those breaks.
About this case, they were in a Fire and EMT headquarters, how is this one EMT solely responsible for all of it? If she works behind a desk, what's she supposed to do? Call for help? That's what she did.

a pubescent imagination.
Am I reading this right?
She snuck away to spend time with her boyfriend (also an EMT) and neither of them help in a serious medical emergency situation, even though they were both trained, and they get off scot free?
What the fuck.
Union laws in NY are tough shit. If you are on your break you are in no way obliged to do anything work related.

i completely trust you on this
Theres no law but she was an emergency medical technician meaning she HAD the fucking training.
She could have done a fucking trache or something
uhhhhhhhhhh....
Not really.
All she could of done was call for help, and do CPR.
You can't treat an asthma attack without medication, or equipment, outside of putting the patient in a more comfortable position that promotes more effective breathing=.
The "EMT" is a still a bitch though for just standing there

Getting an EMT-B isnt that hard...
Ive met some really daft EMT-B's....
Now EMT-P's totally different level of respect regarding their knowledge and skill.
Which i question why the title is referring to the woman as being an EMT -P. A -P would realize how quickly SOB or labored breathing can go down-hill and wouldnt just ignore it like a "first responder" would.
I bet she's rotting inside
Seriously, that arrogant face is just a facade. She caused the death of another woman and her unborn and she's going to have to live with it; unless she's a psycopath she must be feeling like shit.
Not sure what she could have done honestly. Would a dispatcher with no equipment have been able to help someone having an asthma attack?
ahaha
stop
Does not constitute ignoring the person. They could have done a lot of things to help the woman, but they did nothing. Not even call for help.
Sickening
if someone died of a heart attack right the fuck infront of me, the only thing I can do with what I know is call for help
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT to do when that happens. And you know, I'd still do something. Because I'm not an immature asshole.
a pubescent imagination.
Prepubescent, more like.
sounds like shit
Wait till you look at unions for IT, some places have one person solely dedicated to pressing OKAY or NEXT
First Reaponder and EMT are two separate jobs bro. EMT's actually receive a certification which is pretty damn hard to obtain, First Responders on the other hand generally don't have this certification.
As I said, in New York state, Certified First Responders are classed as EMT, read up on it bit.
Certified First responders are trained in a standard 40 hour course, EMT-B are trained in a standard 110 hour course.
And this why Javert commited suicide....I hope someone can understand me.....

its true though, a first responder, without equipment or a drug box can not treat a asthma attack.
All the responder could of done was call for help, and do CPR when the patient coded.
She called for help, but left. She should of stayed and started CPR. If she did that, she would of been in the clear (morally at least). Her skill-level is very very low, she knows first aid and CPR, theres no magical pat on the back she could of done, she probably hasn't had any practical practice in doing patient assessments either, she was pretty much useless in this situation outside of calling for help and providing BLS.
Now, i still think this person is scum and terrible, she should of provided CPR/BLS, and not of walked away, but it sounds like she didnt know, but it is her job to find out if this is just a SOB patient who can wait for the ambulance, or if this is a serious asthma attack that was deadly. Still a bitch, but you guys are giving her way too much credit in her skill sets and what she could of done.
If you read the full news article she says that she'd do the same all over again, I have lost faith in humanity for real this time.
This thread title needs to be changed.
She was neither an EMT or a Paramedic. She was a dispatcher. She called 911 and did pretty much the extent of what she probably knows how to do. Does this mean she isn't a total bitch? No, but she's not legally at fault.
The person really at fault is the boyfriend, but he's dead.
Theres no law but she was an emergency medical technician meaning she HAD the fucking training.

No she couldn't have. Do you even know what a Trache is?

CFR is not considered EMT, I have no idea where you get that idea from. An EMT is someone who is a certified EMT, ALS or BLS.
She was a dispatcher. Everyone calls her an EMT, but she had no kit and wasn't assigned to an ambulance. She was told "hey this person is having trouble breathing" and she called an ambulance and left.
Also just FYI as to why the boyfriend isn't being brought up on charges: He is dead. Shot to death.

Uh they're certified first responders.
Not certified Emergency Medical Technicians. It's two different things that do not overlap in any capacity. You don't really know what you're talking about.
