Iran-Iraq war. Realistic combat and all of that. In the end of the campaign you end up losing the battle and dying (without scripted explosions or anything, just have ti be totally within game context) Every small detail should be modeled. Tanks dragging Malyutka wires, etc. The game should immerse the player in as much combat as possible, but make it so the player cannot do a lot of killing in combat, because the enemy AI will be competent and dangerous. Advancing should be slow and agonizing. Situational awareness out of armored vehicles should be limited to none. Random things happen that change up how the campaign is played. Maybe a SCUD lands on your command post, leaving your platoon leader to make bad decisions that gets half your platoon killed. Maybe your family (that you perhaps leave at the start of the game and sends you occasional letters) gets hit in a bombing raid
Everyone is the good guy from their own perspective.
You'd also need to make the player think you're a good guy or else you'd just feel like a complete dick the entire game and not in a Spec Ops: The Line way. It'd be fighting with shitty assault rifles for a bit and then being killed by a drone because the US Army is OP but the devs can't nerf.
heres my pitch: you get to play as a butt everyone else is butt
