Native Americans say that Facebook is accusing them of having fake names

I tried to add my middle name "Alan" several years ago, and it was autorejected for being fake. Yet, I see people in my friends list with names like "ThaTrain", "CremDellaCrem", and others.
Finally got it through a couple years back.
I've got mates who use "Knownas Dietzie", " Psy Chosis" and "Ven Om" on Facebook because they don't want to use their real names and they've never had any problems because of it. Facebook's name policy isn't just stupid, it plain doesn't work.

but this guy gets to be called whatever he wants
Last I knew a friend of mine still had an account named ☭Hammer and Sickle☭ with Jenny's number that he exclusively used for coupons.
Their detection is beyond comically bad.

Although it's more of a annoyance for people who actually are using them legitmatly, as people can just make a new account with an more legitimate alias and continue shitting up
Nah, it's more so they can serve ads and sell you to third parties.
I wonder if Facebook prevents anyone from using the name, Osama Bin Laden for real?

Secrets out. My name is finally revealed.
Why is facebook even enforcing real names? I understand if you use a celebrity name but for other sorts of names, who cares?
Firstly, Facebook's supposed to be about connecting with real people you know in real life, not being yet another forum where you interact with a username and an avatar and that's it. They don't want it filling up with joke accounts and fictional personas, they want you to be able to type in a name and find the real person you're looking for.
Secondly, their advertisement model requires true-name information. If you're not providing your name, they don't get paid, so they suspend you until you follow their simple rules.

Very true, but then they really have to pick up their game. I understand them not wanting fake names, but then you should rely on a system that works better, especially if your advertisement model depends on it like you said.

Oh yeah, they're really bad at differentiating between fakes and real names and I'm not defending that at all. Just saying that if you don't want your name attached to your posts, Facebook isn't the site you should be using anyways, and they do have legitimate reasons for the policies.

Which doesn't invalidate people's right to use a pseudonym. They don't even need a reason you or anyone else thinks is valid, it can be as simple as 'I like to go by Gareth Gobulcoque online therefore that's my FB name'.

And if we don't want our personal information sold to literally every ad agency in the western hemisphere we have a right to keep said information confidential. If that means using a pseudonym then so be it.
lol I'm not gonna use my real name fuck that

Yeah but the thing is FB can easily say if you don't agree with our rules you are free to leave. They have to work really hard and come up with more agreeable and enforceable solution but saying that you don't have to supply your real name is only valid until you realize you are signing up to their site voluntarily.

What right to use a pseudonym? Facebook asks for your real name as part of the TOS, if you don't agree you don't have to use Facebook and can freely use a pseudonym on any website that allows it.

You have no 'right' to use their service without agreeing to the terms that make their service sustainable. If you choose to use that service you are agreeing to the terms that allow them to disclose that information.
Facebook is a private business offering a service, you either agree to their TOS or go find another website. I think they ought to revise their policies and fix enforcement but I don't assert nonexistent rights to argue that.

My mother was born in the Midwestern US to a pair of German immigrants, and named Erika. As a child, she said that she was brought aboard spaceships on a nightly basis to learn the secrets of the universe, including how to commune with angels and speak to animals. After having her first son, me, she received another visitation, where she was instructed to abandoned her mundane Midwestern lifestyle and name. She left me with my dad, an eighteen year old basketball player from East Saint Louis, and became Morning Star. She traveled to South Dakota to learn how to refine her psychic and spiritual abilities from "Indian Mystics," and soon birthed my brothers, First Journey and Tahcawanaka, and my sister, Rainbow Star Destiny Child. During her third trimester of pregnancy with Rainbow, she fasted on the hill for a vision quest, and received a vision that her three new children are part of a sacred prophecy that will ultimately change the fate of the world.
So Facebook better watch the fuck out! These are their Angel Names, and no corporation is a match for that.
Mass migration from FB when?
Tbh social media systems should be decentralized. Why should there be an authority on what people share with each other?

how in the fuck do you plan on decentralizing social media?
My sister has the same name as a celebrity and they won't let her use her own name cause of that.

I can tell you're joking but morningstar is a real firstname of someone I know.

Mass migration over name disputes that were a thing for a long time now? Nah
My name was Rad McCool for about 6 months
gj fb
That's weird, I decided to go offline and set my name on fb to Goose [My Surname]
Didn't have a single problem. (Except that I can't change it back for a while now :v )
I can tell you're joking but morningstar is a real firstname of someone I know.
I wish I were, but I'm afraid I'm dead serious.
It's horrible on trans folk, too. Even on those who DO legally change their names.
I mean, its kinda stupid. They bend over backwards to provide us a shit ton of pronouns and genders but when it comes to names, its what you are born as or don't use facebook. I kinda wish they'd go the route of G+ and just let people be whatever the fuck they want.
+ is a better fucking service anyway its just a shame none of my friends will ever migrate to it.
It's also a pain because I'm connected with a little character roleplaying group on Facebook. RP accounts are just lawn mowed in a matter of weeks.
Wait what's that about lawn mowing?
Don't forget those parents who named their child Sephiroth
Anything can be a name if it's not restricted by the law
I made an account for a tub of matt clay and its still up months later
Mass migration over name disputes that were a thing for a long time now? Nah
It's just another thing on the list of things to be angry about.
