You gotta admit, no matter what you think about riots or their causes, riot police always look cool as hell when they stand in long, perfect formations like that.
Especially when their shields are big and opaque and form a long wall instead of that tiny round plexiglass stuff you might see in a more Western country.

I was mistaken. It appears they were actually linking multiple hoses together to make one that can span the distance from behind the police barrier all the way to the burning tire mound.
It seems people from both sides are traversing the no-man's land without killing each other, which is a good thing.

Police generally have no intention of killing rioters. Given the firebombing and flashing of guns that's been going on, I don't think the feeling is mutual.
Anyone know what the actual organized purpose of the firewall was for?
My only guess it was to halt the police while people slept and such as to not get pushed back off the square. They probably want the fire out now so the festivities can continue.
