For "liberated areas" I assume its those places whose regional offices have been stormed by protesters and have forced the bigwig to sign a letter of resignation.
As for the rest, I assume it's places where attempts have been made at trying to occupy major buildings, and then places where there have been reported protests.

Day 1 rioting. They have been reported to be pneumatic weapons though.
I don't think any of them used firearms, they're just brandishing them for intimidation and possibly photo ops.
