That's a lot of captured Bekrut...
It is one of the reasons but there are more, they did it for the future development of the country too.
Ministry of Internal Affairs is basically at the head of everything related to police and internal troops. So personnel from riot police, internal affairs (people in the office), regular police and internal troops would have this patch. However, I think it's bullshit because: A patch is not just attached to uniform with a few threads, that shit's hard to rip off. If Russian forces are there, why not wear different uniform? You can buy patches (ninjad :-) ) Also just for reference: this is the correct most widely used MVD patch as far as I know. Maybe they changed a few things in the six years I wasn't there, all that business with renaming militsiya into police, maybe they changed patches as well. [t]http://mundirmvd.ru/files/products/265_large.jpg[/t] And this is MVD's Internal Troops patch [t]http://ratnik.su/images/4329.jpg[/t]
Aren't both of those variants of the internal troops emblem?
Aren't both of those variants of the internal troops emblem?
MVD patch (top) is a general patch for all MVD forces, be it police or internal troops. The Internal troops patch is specific just to them. Sort of like infantry has their own patch and combat engineers have theirs. Also the top patch is old version. With all that business a few years ago with renaming militsitya into police, I guess they changed patches as well

Good usage of polls though. [editline]20th February 2014[/editline]
MVD patch (top) is a general patch for all MVD forces, be it police or internal troops. It's possible they've changed the patches.
you can buy patches of that exact design online for less than three euros, doesn't prove anything. find any photograph of an actual MVD troop, their issued patched do not feature that emblem on the flag
I've found images of that emblem on Russian websites, but they're mostly on news articles related to serious crimes or other law enforcement related things. Also, some (few) Russian Police seem to feature that patch: [t]http://rusrep.ru/images/photo/1323514645190234_big_photo.jpeg[/t][t]http://en.ria.ru/images/15678/24/156782433.jpg[/t] (center-left man)
the protests started because the government refused to integrate further with the EU, only comparatively recently has it evolved into being about corruption. which is a valid reason to protest of course, but to act like the Ukrainian people don't clearly want further integration is preposterous.
The whole EU debacle triggered it, but anger at the government, corruption and general stagnation of the country are the major underlying causes. I have family in Ukraine and visit quite often. Life there is shit for everyone involved and everyone knows it. The last few years I've noticed many of my friends and family become more outspoken about it, as if people were growing increasingly frustrated and desperate, they really saw no future for themselves or their children without any drastic changes soon. During my last visit I was absolutely certain from the general attitude I had encountered that a revolution of some form was inevitable. I shared my thoughts with some friends when out drinking, and I was surprised at how much they agreed with me, and the conversation took a sharp emotion-filled political turn. In other words, the EU thing was just the event that sparked the flame, but the gasoline has been gathering for a long time before that.
Ukrainian Police Authorized to Use Live Ammo as Battle Rages
Ukraine’s Interior Minister confirmed Thursday he had signed a decree to issue service firearms to police officers and authorized the use of live ammunition. The statement came in the wake of numerous reports from Kiev of both anti-government protesters and police officers being shot dead in ongoing clashes, in which at least 50 people have reportedly been killed.
http://en.ria.ru/world/20140220/187726857/Ukrainian-Police-Authorized-to-Use-Live-Ammo-as-Battle-Rages.html

This will just cause even more bloodshed and cause more people to resist.
Holy crap. The last time I read about Ukraine here in Facepunch there were some tanks running over both police and protesters but this is fucked up!! Way too fucked up! Can someone give me (im in my cellphone so its kinda hard to re read evertyhing) a quick review of the events that have happened during the last week? In an Argentine news channel it says "25 deaths in 24 hours". Hope things only get better.
There are atleast 60 confirmed dead since tuesday, Opposition claims up to 100 just today.

cnn says at least 100 dead today
The thing that terrifies me the most is the news that police have been captured by protesters. With the violence that happened earlier today, I'm scared that some of the policemen might not make it out. I'm not saying "All police are Fascists" or "All protesters are thugs". There's good and evil on both side, but what I fear is that people will resort to evil to try and win this.

Oh god, this might really turn very very ugly into a full blown civil war. I really hope it doesn't go to that..... Would be a shame of Ukraine but also will raise tensions between the NATO and Russia.
will raise tensions between the NATO and Russia.
I don't give a damn what Russia thinks about this. They can keep their greasy fingers out of it.
I don't give a damn what Russia thinks about this. They can keep their greasy fingers out of it.
It's almost certain that Russia is going to get into this if it goes into Civil war...... Or perhaps already is behind the scenes. Question is, will the NATO/EU do something about it when it happens.
It's almost certain that Russia is going to get into this if it goes into Civil war...... Or perhaps already is behind the scenes. The best any western government can do is condemn the Ukranian government.
russia said its just waiting for the call to come to "brotherly aid"
Except that was said not by "Russia", but by a certain member of parliament. There's literally no indication that would lead to such conclusions.
Except that was said not by "Russia", but by a certain member of parliament. There's literally no indication that would lead to such conclusions.
Personally I think it would be political suicide for the Russians to openly announce intervention. I hope, sincerely hope, that it was misinterpreted phrasing from said MP
Personally I think it would be political suicide for the Russians to openly announce intervention. I hope, sincerely hope, that it was misinterpreted phrasing from said MP
Would cause some MAJOR unease with the EU, that's unease neither side want.
Personally I think it would be political suicide for the Russians to openly announce intervention. I hope, sincerely hope, that it was misinterpreted phrasing from said MP
you're talking about the same people that openly support Assad's regime in Syria.

this was hard to watch. That one guy who got hit in the head right through the shield... I mean, I get being passionate about protesting but nothing would get me in their position. I would just leave, run, get out of there. Call me a coward but whatever
you're talking about the same people that openly support Assad's regime in Syria.
I know I am. That's why I'm so nervous about it.
you're talking about the same people that openly support Assad's regime in Syria.
No one has sent troops there. And it's absolutely not like anyone else supports rebels either.
