Iron and Coal, guess which large Asian nation buys most of it.

I know about this stuff as my Grandpa was present at the nuclear resting (he was not the latest bombed that fucked over the people stationed there who died of cancer from the radiation. He was mending the cars they had there but he got out about 3 days before the last bomb at Maralinga)
Don't go blaming the US.
Oh wow, I stand corrected. I was told it was the US by a politics teacher in high school, cheers man.
Am I the only one who doesn't mind this? The Australian Military is laughably small as is, and America is supposed to be one of our key allies...

Australia has huge strategic significance.
At December 2008, Australia had the world’s largest economic resources of brown coal, mineral sands (rutile and zircon), nickel, silver, uranium, zinc and lead. The country also ranks among the top six worldwide for resources of bauxite, black coal, copper, gold, industrial diamond, iron ore, ilmenite, lithium, manganese ore, niobium, tantalum, vanadium and antimony.
(Also explains one of the reasons why the US has a base in Greenland)
HREOS are pretty much essential for modern civilization

REE rank highest as mineral raw materials of critical concern, given uncertain future supplies and their importance to advanced industrial economies.

This would cause Americans to spend money in Australia, thus being bennifical in the long run for Australia, yes?
This would cause Americans to spend money in Australia, thus being bennifical in the long run for Australia, yes?

Nope, they wouldn't be able to afford any of the overpriced stuff in our country.
But our government is famous for overspending on things, especially when it comes to the military.
Just watch Australia ban military bases.
Just watch them.

Am i the only person that finds it interesting the US needs another base near Asia so that they might be able to fix the problems they might get with China that they are the cause of to begin with?
In other words: "Hello we created a problem and asked for your help. Once you can't help me any longer you might become a problem so we need more bases over where you live".

We can't set up a base in say...Vietnam, because you know how oh so well we did towards that war...
Isn't Australia a first world, English speaking, capitalist, democracy that has the same goals as America? If so, then why the fuck are we setting up a base there? Let the Australians be the ones to use their own military and budget.
And what about Japan? Aren't they rich, high GDP, and technologically advanced (at least perceptively because they make a lot robotics and electronics)?
Setting up colonies all of over the world has nothing to do with defending America and is waste of money. I say if this goes through, then Australia should pay America for the extra defense.
Well what would you rather we do? We can't set up a base in say...Vietnam, because you know how oh so well we did towards that war...
There's no alternative really.

It's not about that, it's about strategic location. The United States has the rare ability to put boots on ground just about anywhere in the world at a moments notice.
For example, if North Korea invaded South Korea, USFK and the ROK Armed Forces will try to hold the line. The US will be able to bring in immediate reinforcements from Japan and Australia, meanwhile bringing in heavier reinforcements from further away places.
There's no alternative really.
Thats what I mean, people may not like it but when our government has something on their mind when it comes to military actions. They usually go through with it. Sadly which is why this country has several issues.

Well the point I'm trying to make is that the US shouldn't be putting boots anywhere, especially when its allies are perfectly capable of carrying their fair share of the weight.
I fail to see any problems with this. If anything, stationing soldiers on a cursed and godforsaken continent full of stuff that wants to murder you will produce better soldiers.
Just you wait, give it a few months and all soldiers stationed there will become Rambo.
